The post by @esheato asking about the Mach Loop here in Wales, fairly local to me but thousands of miles from him but somewhere he'd love to go and try fighter plane shots had me wondering where others might want to go and for what reason.
Being primarily , virtually entirely , focussed on wildlife I would love to visit the USA for Grizzly Bears taking Salmon, a Pelagic trip off the coast of South Africa for seabirds, anywhere, probably South America that has lots of different Hummingbirds and finally, the Outer Hebrides and Mull in Scotland. Time is running out for me and I don't think the USA will feature on my visiting list as getting a VISA is inconvenient, awkward and expensive for me because I visited Cuba as recently as 2022. Scotland is definitely on the cards though!!

Interesting question, and I surprised myself when I struggled for an answer - at first.

I don’t shoot epic landscapes or exotic birds and wildlife, so that wouldn’t be a motivator. What I do is work with what’s around me and try to wrest images from what I have to work with. This means I don’t get a lot of images and there are long stretches where I go, but don’t even take the camera out of the bag…and I’m ok with that. Maybe it just means I get to feel all smug and sanctimonious when I do get something good because I can tell myself I did it the hard way.

I also realized it probably stems from the fact that I loathe traveling. I love seeing new places, but hate the “getting there” part. Driving for hours on end has long since lost its charm and as for air travel, well, I am way too ADHD - if you strap me in a chair for hours on end, by about hour two, I’ll be sharpening a plastic spoon and there’s going to be a stabbing. If they ever perfect the Transporter, I’ll be a travelin’ fool.

Were you to put me under duress and make me give an answer, I’d probably have to say “the desert southwest or a rainforest” - something radically different from what I’m normally surrounded by.

Good topic!

Obviously, I'm a sucker for fighter jets, but I also find myself drawn to epic landscapes, even though I don't consider myself a landscape shooter; Azores, Costa Rica, Norway, Iceland (over and over and over again. Love it there).

After five trips to Europe/United Kingdom in the last six years we have decided we need to see more of our own country. So we are thinking Newfoundland, Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. Would really like to explore the South Western USA but the value of the Canadian dollar vs American makes that unlikely. I like landscape and wildlife photography but usually will take a picture of anything that is new, different or tweaks my interest. Dave, come to Canada. We have lots of wildlife and your pounds will go far compared to CDN $.
