I wonder if anyone know if this is possible. I quite often download pics with star rating during the events, made me wonder could it be done automatically in the background. So instead of me opening the app, connect phone to camera, select pics to download, the system would just do that automatically for any pic that I have marked with stars?

During the breaks, half of the time I spend with the download, other half to do quick LR editing and post them. If the camera already pushed the good ones to my phone, I would save 50% time already there.

Well, "wireless" covers more than just WiFi to your phone. What you describe (tagging and auto uploading) is very much like what the R3 can do with FTP. Now, FTP might be more complicated than you want, but the R3 does it pretty well in the background while you shoot.

And I think you can configure LR to pull automatically from an FTP site; I know it could be configured to pull images from image.canon. Are you using Camera Connect, or only LR to transfer the pics?

Iif you star them in the camera, you can filter them by that rating in CCC for download so you don't need to reselect them.

I'm assuming no wifi access, so can't do FTP. Also no laptop (usually), hence I'm hoping the phone connection would do it. And given the amount of pics I often shoot, I'd only want to download the starred ones. My phone storage can't download all pics.

Yes the camera connect at least defaults to filter the starred ones on top when I connect, but would be much more convenient if it already did the download in the background.

I see. Well, I don't know of a way to do it with CCC but I haven't tried. When I use CCC that way, I typically have a tablet and then I pull up a view of the camera's contents sorted by rating. I can select all of a particular rating and do whatever with it, but for me that is usually deleting the rejects. Glancing through the R5 manual, you can select images matching a certain search condition (like a star rating) and send only those wirelessly to CCC, but it still sounds like a manual operation. Maybe you can automate it slightly with a button that you just push periodically.

Running CCC continuously (with WiFi enabled, which it would need to be) is a crazy battery drain for the phone, in my experience. If I needed to do this, I would probably use a laptop, figure out how to run a FTP server on it, and do it that way because FTP (which both cameras have) truly is a background transfer. CCC sounds like it is always a batch transfer.
