Not sure if anyone else has had this issue with their R6 MKII. I have had it happen a few times when shooting in the high speed burst and high speed burst + mode several times recently. I shoot a burst and stop firing and the camera keeps going for 10-15 frames or more.

Last night I was at a local rodeo and was shooting with the R6 MkII and my R7.
I was using the RF 70-200mm f/4 and the RF 100-500mm lenses and used both on the 2 different cameras.
I was in HS burst mode and also HS+
Electronic shutter on both
The 2 cameras are set up with similar button settings, I use BBF on one button with eye detection and one button with BBF for just the center area focus.
Several times with the R6 MKII I shot a burst and released my finger from the shutter button and the camera kept firing.
Never happened with the R7.
I have had this happen with this body also while shooting birds in flight.

I looked online and there were some posts in the Canon USA user's forum. I found several posts from last year, exact same thing happening. Lots of suggestions about doing a factory reset and then making button changes one at a time until the problem happens but that didn't seem to solve anyone's issue. Most of the OP's said they sent the camera to Canon and they either replaced the shutter mechanism or the mother board or some other component, it fixed it for some but not for others. Seems everyone who had the problem was shooting burst mode with E shutter and BBF so their might be a link.

Anyone else heard about this?

Solution
My camera was returned today and is repaired, well that is what they say but I need to do a field test.

I contacted the guy at CPS on Monday, who had contacted me a week ago, he said if the problem was still happening he could send me a shipping label to send it back in. I took him up on it as the problem was getting worse as you can see in the video I posted earlier here. So, I Fed-Ex'd it on Monday at noon, got word on Tuesday morning it was in their possession. I included a written description of the issue and also a USB flash drive with 2 videos of it misfiring. I got a message late on Tuesday it was being repaired and by Wednesday noon that it was ready to ship home. Later that day I got the message it had shipped and it arrived...
I’ve shot burst modes quite a bit and never had it happen to me on either my R6 or R6 mkII.

My first thought would be some kind of gunk or dirt in the shutter button causing it to stay held down.

Never had this happen, but I've only used the pre-shooting function. Also, I think you can only use the e-shutter (up to 30fps) in raw burst.

I've tried some of the suggestions like resetting and then adding in my custom settings one by one. Didn't seem to replicate it until after I was finished customizing the buttons. Shutter button isn't dirty or stuck so I am going to send it to CPS this week. I got it last May from B&H o it is still in warranty.

Well, I finally got around to packing up my camera and sending it to the Canon Service Center in Newport News. It is under warranty until May so I wanted to get it checked out. Before wrapping it up and filing the warranty claim I took it out behind my home and took pictures of my dog to make sure the issue was still there. As mentioned it happens in H or H+ burst, silent shutter, Servo mode, fast shutter and with BBF engaged. I shot about 35 short bursts and with the 4th or 5th burst it kept shooting for 1-2 seconds after my finger left the shutter button. Happened with the normal camera shutter as well as the one on the vertical battery grip. Firmware is current, even tried again last week to reset to the factory specs and then re-customized my buttons so I could retry it. I sent a detailed explanation of the problem, hopefully they can see it happen and fix it.

Canon Professional Services in Virginia had my camera for a week trying to replicate my issue with it firing after I removed my finger from the trigger. Last Thursday they requested I send in the battery grip. I was pretty sure that was not causing the problem, the problem only happened when I was shooting in landscape mode using the camera shutter button and not the one on the grip.

Fast forward to today when I received a text from them saying my camera was being dispatched and should arrive tomorrow. No other mention of repairs completed so I called them. The lady told me they could not replicate my issue and the camera was functioning normally. Frustrating as this happened quite a lot over the past month and I know I didn't imagine it. They also said if it happens again I should send in the camera and all accessories, grip, batteries, memory cards and lenses used. Surprised they didn't include the tripod.

Well this morning I am waiting to hear back from Canon Professional Services. They had sent me an email last week because I have them poor marks in my review of their recent service or lack of service on my R6 MkII. They even offered to pay for shipping it back if I was still having the problem. To be honest I hadn't shot with it too much as I was mostly using my R7 or M5 cameras.

However, on Saturday I used it with my RF 70-200 lens at my grandson's soccer match and the camera really had a life of it's own. For every short burst of images I fired, the camera continued firing for 8-15 shots after I had released the shutter and removed my finger from the BBF button. I shot about 300 shots at the game but came back with 356, the extras were all fired off by the camera malfunction.

On Sunday I sent a reply to the guy at CPS who had emailed me. Hopefully I hear back today. Later this morning I want to try to set up a video of the camera malfunctioning; perhaps have my wife sit behind me with her iPhone in video mode while I shoot a burst, remove fingers and let the camera do it's thing. If anything the problem is worse than before.

Here is a sample of images I saved for the CPS folks. I was only shooting the team in yellow and after the last 2 shots of a burst it shot another 8 shots of the green shirt team. I wasn't even touching the shutter or BBF buttons and had moved the camera away form my face which is why they are not all in the frame.

In the end, they said the shutter button had failed and was the cause of the mis-firing. The said they replaced the "upper cover assembly", I think this is the top cover of the camera that must have an attached shutter button. Around the shutter button was a bit of clear plastic like sheet material what comes on electronics parts from assembly from the factory. The camera appears to be fine, need to reset all my custom button functions. The copywrite and other similar settings are unchanged but buttons and dials were factory reset.

Glad we got it sorted out, my one year warranty ends in May so this was good timing.

My R6II did that yesterday. Didn't really surprise me because my R7 does it all the time!
When I first got my R7, I had the same problem. I thought it was odd, but it seemed harmless. A few frames worth of pixel data doesn't cost me anything, so I just ignored it.

Mainly I fixed it by not using H+ electronic anymore. 30 FPS is too hard to edit. Coming home with 6000 images in 30, 40, 100 frame bursts that all look the same took me hours to cull. I had to look at each image one by one. I figured if I'm not willing to do that, then what's the point of shooting that fast. 6-10 FPS is more than fast enough for what I shoot. I'm not covering the Olympics or anything. Besides making post processing easier, shooting slower has the added bonus of the camera quitting when I do.

Reading this thread, there are at least 3 of us in a small, fairly random sample size who have seen this problem. It surprises me that Canon hasn't heard of it. Personally, if it only happens with certain settings, I would suspect it's a firmware problem rather than hardware.

That's a good reason to back up your C-mode settings. It's pretty easy to do. I would hold off on making any judgement on the repair until you put your settings back.
