I had finally had enough with the missed focuses with my R7 and it's gone. This, after two trips to Canon Service for repair. The R7 II isn't available yet and I wanted another APS-C R body for my RF 100-500L lens so an R10 was purchased. My hobby is aviation photography

Verdict: All of the autofocusing problems were now gone and the R10 has been performing beautifully. It will be an excellent carry over until the R7 II comes along.

If your R7 is giving you annoying inconsistencies that you're tired of, an R10 just might fill the bill. I sure did for me.

I picked up my R7 two years ago from Canon refurbished and had some focus issues initially with my Sigma 150-600 contemporary lens but once I learned how to setup the camera after watching youtube R7 setup videos and testing settings myself its been fine ever since. I don't even have the dreaded focus pulsing some have posted using the 150-600 C at close range.

I also added the R6 Mkiii recently and frankly both cameras focus fine for me. In lower light or low contrast the smaller pixels in the R7 struggle more to nail focus but other than that....No issues. I trust both cameras equally and they focus way better and faster than my old 7D and even my 6D that I still own. 6D is still pretty good using the center only focus point. But with moving subjects and animals that's not enough. 6D is used now for sky pictures like Aurora and I manual focus in that setting.

R10 is a fine camera too so if you dont need the higher pixel res for cropping more then the bigger pixels will help when focusing low contrast greyish airplanes.

One other thing with the R7 is I dont use mechanical shutter. Due to shutter shock. Electronic first curtain is what i use and have my record button setup to select silent shutter which allows me to toggle between EFC and Silent shutter.

I am very happy with my R7 and R6 Mkiii! Both have the same pixel count and can be cropped equally in post. Both cameras compliment each other IMO. And with the R7 I shoot tiny birds in 4k 60p HDR using crop video mode. So I can get insane reach with my sigma 150-600 C and nice smooth very clear 4K 60p HDR videos. 👍

I was watching for the R7 Mkii but what i wanted was more video options so decided to add the R6 Mkiii instead to my collection. The R7 will stay and will probably not update when the mkii comes out. The original does what I need. But i sure hope they don't go with even smaller pixels...

Glad to hear that your R7 is treating you well. Even with the settings correctly set, it was just too inconsistent in the focusing department. I could very well be that I just had a poor example. It happens. That said, when it was behaving itself it produced beautiful images when paired with the RF 100-500L lens.

I may have got lucky with my 150 - 600. I hear you and I watched examples of many of the issues on youtube. I actually just tried the 150-600 sigma on my R6 mkiii today. Appears stable...no IS jitters and no focus breathing focusing at 600 mm close range. Working the same as on my R7.

The other thing I noticed when I first purchased my 150-600 it focused perfectly on my old 6D. I didnt have to use the sigma dock to tweak the viewfinder focusing at any focal length. Spot on perfect. Unlike some of my sigma Art lenses...

Dont get me wrong... I do see some issues in low contrast settings...thus is why i bought the R6 mkiii. R7 needs a fast readout speed but its still a good sensor.

Hey I came from DSLR days and even film SLRs so these cameras even the R7 are outstanding compared to the old days.

This is my main workhorse of a lens and I love it. It's very light weight (only around 2.3 lbs) lens. I've been able to hand-hold it for an event...
