ON1 NoNoise is free

I use LrC and am pleased with its denoising abilities. I have no interest in switching to ON1.

But I have friends who are not Adobe users. Some of them might be interested in a stand-alone noise reduction package. Should I mention this free deal to them? I don't want to send them down a rabbit hole.

I have downloaded to try (it is free after all), will see if it slots easily into my LRC workflow and if any better than LRC denoise, if it is it can stay if not it will go in the bin.

Is this an old version?

Is this an old version?
No it will be the latest. There are additional version numbers. I got it last October for $30.

I don't use it instead of LrC's Denoise AI. I Do all of my editing using LrC's Denoise AI, Sharpening, etc. After I'm done I may send the file to NoNoise which also has Tack Sharp. It's a nice compliment to LrC. I call it sprinkling on the cake. It comes back as a TIFF. After exporting I often delete the TIFF as I still have the fully developed RAW file. I colour code the RAW so I know I used it.

Looks like Adobe was headed towards cloud based editing for both the Topaz partnered Denoise and Sharpen AI which are only available via PS, not ACR or LrC. Since those are cloud based they eat credits. 10 credits per run so that would give me 25 runs per month of Sharpen AI and then I'd need to buy more. I don't like that plan. NoNoise offers unlimited usage.

I did give that version of Topaz Sharpen AI partnered model a try and was not that impressed. No user controls and it seemed to over-sharpen. I'm sure it will get better and I suspect the option to run it from LrC will appear one day. For now I suppose that is the answer to using Denoise & Sharpen AI with other formats than just RAW and DNG.

Now that Adobe has purchased Topaz we will see where this all winds up.

Is it any good?
It's free. Give it a try.

This is just a screen shot of a 20,000 ISO file. TIFF sent from LrC with no processing. NN is on the right.

File back in LrC as a TIFF and exported. No other processing in LrC.

Thanks for the tip on using Tack Sharp. I just tried this plugin today for the first time and the noise reduction doesn't make me want to use it over Lightroom Classic's DeNoise AI, but the Tack Sharp seems to be really nice. I can imagine using it on a layer in Photoshop for selective sharpening in the future.

That was main purpose of getting it. If it was just NoNoise I would not purchased it. It is not as powerful as Topaz Sharpen AI (single app) that has not had an update since 2022. Still pretty good in a pinch but I like more natural look off NoNoise. I always did like it even before I had Tack Sharp. I had NoNoise, Topaz DeNoise and Sharpen AI, Topaz Photo AI v1 and DXO PureRaw. When Adobe released Denoise AI I got rid of everything expect Topaz Sharpen AI. Since no one really knows what Adobe is doing with Topaz I got it again last fall.

Pretty powerful tool for what I paid for it - $30. Now it's free so hard to complain. There are some videos on how to use masking, etc for both Denoise and Tack Sharp. Most of the time I find NoNoise itself is plenty as it has enhance detail and micro sharpening.
