We adopted a retired Greyhound (Retired: a Greyhound that is forced to race and when they are not good enough, adopted).
A interesting fact is a racing greyhound may have three names in their lives: 1) the racing name such as Fast Lightening that people bet on, 2) the name the kennel handlers call them such as Pinky. 3) The name the adopted family names them...this is usually the case when a dog either hasn't made the cut or forced out due to an injury and hasn't raced long.
NOTE: the dogs know they names by what the handlers call them not by their racing name for obvious reasons.
We never discovered our dogs racing name, but he had been racing for three years before forced into retirement due to a racing accident. Of course we didn't discover his neck injury until we took him to the Vet because of "complaining".
Oh, his name? We kept his kennel name: Bob.
The street we liven on at the time was DeBok, so his name was expanded to Sir Bob of DeBok. I miss that ol' dog.
