1. This 12th century Augustinian monastery is built on a bend of the River Coquet. The founder, William Bertram Lord of Mitford, was of Norman descent.
2. The priory church survived the dissolution of the monasteries (1536-1541) because it was also a parish church.
3. Religious services are still occasionally held here. It has also been a venue for concerts.
4. After gradually falling into a state of disrepair, the Priory was reroofed and fully restored in the mid-19th century.
5. The medieval Manor House was partly built from some of the monastic remains. It was remodelled into the Tudor Gothic Revival style (1830-1837).
6. The Brinkburn site is now managed by English Heritage.
