Congratulations to our first competition winners last month and a big thank you to everyone who took part.

In second place with 7 votes was @PKM-UK with the very beautiful Sumatran Tiger Kasarna, taken at Chester Zoo, Chester, England.
In joint third place with 6 votes was @Hali with her very creative and eye bending macro abstracts shot.
In joint third place with 6 votes was @Dean Wilson with a stunning landscape possibly shot in his home state of Oregon, USA. Please correct me if I'm wrong Dean!

Hi Tim,

Our warm congratulations to Nick for winning the May competition (a superb image which got our vote!).

Another fun theme this month, with our entry being a recent capture from Chester Zoo, Chester, England.

(Shot raw and processed with DxO PL Elite/ Nik Collection and Adobe LrC/ PS with Tony Kuyper Panels).

Red Fox siblings play fighting.
Unfortunately I didn't get too many opportunities to capture this kind of action and all too often the evening light forces compromises on shutter speed vs ISO. It's a 50% crop of the original CRAW.

Most of my photography is of wildlife in my own yard, though I do venture out now and then. This photo was captured in my back yard.

A big thank you to everyone who has taken part in this months competition. So many amazing photos. They make me wish that I was there as each one was so perfectly captured.

In 1st place with 9 votes was @Nick L with his wonderful baby swan image catching a ride with his mum.
In 2nd place with 8 votes was @JustUs7 with his very striking hippo shot. I'm glad he was using a 400mm lens!
In 3rd place with 7 votes was @Dave Williams with his splendid shot of a couple of fox cubs play fighting.

Of course every entry is a winner here regardless of the number of votes received! :)

Our July competition will be kicking off on Monday. The theme will be long exposures. I hope you are all thinking about your entries already!

Great pictures everyone, thanks Canon for the R5, no way I would have got that shot with my 5D.

I'd love to know where the Hippo shot was taken @JustUs7 ! In fact I'd love to hear more details on all the shots , not just the exif. The locations, the challenges etc.

I feel kind of guilty. It was at the Cincinnati Zoo. We were there to see the new baby hippo (my youngest loves hippos).

They have a shaded lower viewing area where you can see above and below the water line. I pressed the lens hood up to an inch or two of acrylic glass to eliminate any glare. Papa hippo was eyeballing the crowd. I was thinking of PKM-UK’s great framing where he doesn’t always try to get the whole animal in frame - so I’ll give him partial credit. 👍

Next time someone says don’t put any glass in front of your good lenses, well… 😁 seems an inch or two of acrylic doesn’t hurt anything.

@JustUs7 I wouldn't feel guilty at all, it's an excellent shot. There is a spot in Kruger NP where you used to be able to get an eye level shot of the resident Hippo behind Biyamiti weir but heavy rains and flooding wiped out the food source and the Hippo had moved on when I last visited in 2022. I was hoping you had taken it there recently and the Hippo had returned.
