...this house wren is standing on a faded piece of plywood, which is acting (sort of) as a bit of reflector.

Troglodytes aedon, I presume.

(as opposed to Troglodytes troglodytes, the one that the whole family was named after - but apparently the only member of the wren family found in the Old World. More song per ounce of bird than many others.)

Thanks for the clarification.

It is worth pointing out, I think, that most who post here know much more about birds than I do.

You have added to my knowledge, and if I understand what I'm reading, my House Wren is better referred to as a Northern House Wren (became known to me when I googled for Troglodytes aedon).
