The 85 1.2 is has to be my favorite lens. I rented it last year for my daughter's senior pictures. It's almost like it just takes the pictures for you. I was amazed at the quality. Wish I had the money to buy one to have full time.

If you are goong to downgrade from the R5, you should look at the R6 mkII instead of the R8.

I just ordered an R7. Should be here today. Getting ready for the eclipse, and I want to get a bunch of test shots and have plenty of time to learn the camera before the eclipse.

I had the 24-104 f/4-7.1 when I first got my R6. But eventually sold it and got the f/4 IS USM version which which better and not that much bigger or heavier. I think you'll be happier with the f/4 version. Or better yet get the 24-70 f/2.8.

You can remove the solar filter during totality. The sun itself will be totally obscured by the moon during totality and is safe for viewing by the naked eye and wont damage your camera sensor. But you need to put it back on once totality ends and the sun starts being visible again. There are...

What are everyone's thoughts regarding an R7 for eclipse pics? I've got enough that I could get an R7 and an RF 100-400 f/5.6-8 lens. Or I could get the RF 100-500 f/4.5-7.1 lens. Since I sold my 60D last year, I don't have a crop sensor camera. And I didn't have any good lenses for it anyway...

Those are both very cool photos. I love the ring of the stages around the totality. I definitely want to try to get one of totality with some of the solar flares like your first shot.
