4 bugs (with ID's (correct hopefully) from last night... Heterocordylus tibialis (capsid) - Psectrotanypus varius (non biting midge) - Bedellidae (snout mite) & a Syrphidae (hoverfly) sleeping under a leaf.

So nice - please tell me about the LAOWA you're shooting. Is it manual focus only? I have the RF 100mm f2.8 and have gotten good results with it but nothing on this scale. I don't know if my shaky old hands could be steady enough to get manual focus images like these.

I see the folks who take the pictures of the multiple-eyed jumping spiders - in fact I used to know a woman who specialized in jumping spiders; it's all she photographed - and I always wished I knew how she did it.

Yes - it is a full manual lens.

I routinely set the camera to around 125 ISO (or 160 sometimes) and the flash to 1/128th power with the lens itself at f8.

The Venus 60mm is a 2:1 macro lens so magnification of even these small mites giving the 'tog a fighting chance of getting something in focus that looks big enough to show. That said, this is still cropped. It is a hard lens to master but does come at an affordable price so ling as you get used to using it and not have any auto settings a tall.
