Sometimes in order to capture the shot you simply can't shoot at a lower ISO. I spend time in densely wooded areas and jungles and need the higher ISO.

I liked Duade's review. I felt it was positive overall, while honest about some faults. Goodness forbid that a new camera isn't perfect. His biggest negatives seemed to be the stickiness of tracking and high ISO image quality. Neither of these are new criticisms.

Being an hobbyist... for me the image quality has been a wash. I haven't noticed a decline. But, I'm nowhere near their level (Duade and Jan), so its not a comparison. Regarding the tracking, my impression is that the Mark II is better. But, I really do suck at tracking moving targets... always been tough for me. Of the negative points Duade made, the one that resonates is that focus in precapture may not be adaptive. This is still TBD and needs controlled investigation and testing, but I think Duade is right... the R5 does not properly engage autofocus in pre-capture. I would like to see this difinitely proven one way or the other.

Don't lose sight of Duade's conclusion - as it is my own and great minds must think alike - this is the best damn camera you can buy on the market today.

P.S. He mentions it, but I don't think he gives it enough emphasis in the video... the intital focus acquisition is incredible, even compared to the amazing R5.

The exposure triangle means that when you pick 2 components the 3rd is determined for you.

1. If you're shooting with a 100-500mm or 200-800mm like Duade is (and I am), you are bound by either f7.1 or f8 on the long end of the lens - you cannot go faster.
2. If you are shooting birds in flight and want to capture the bird and not a blur you have to shoot at a shutter speed that will do that, which can vary by focal length but suffice it to say that you're talking 1/1600s and above. You cannot go slower.
3. It is what it is.

Simple? Sure, but no, you can't just lower the ISO. Not unless you can control the sun, clouds...

My take on the R5ii is that there are a bunch of improvements over the Mk I and I wanted every one of them. If I'm forced to shoot in a situation where I know that shadows are going to be particularly problematic then I will bring out the original - once I find that the DR of the Mk II is problematic. NR software hasn't been updated for this one yet, so for now I'm shooting brighter than I would have with the original to avoid it, but would rather deal with losing shadow detail than blown highlights. The trade off here is by no means as significant as the interwebs want to make it seem. EVERYBODY loves to kick tires. It's still better than the Z8 and Z9, and who knows what firmware might do?!

Red, beautiful capture and pup! No disrespected intended but the image is fairly noisy and the IQ is not quite sharp, especially around the eyes.

This is with modest NR in Topaz.

Of course it needed NR and little sharpening. I was just showing results at ISO 20k. I am waiting for DxO to support MkII files. Topaz is OK but......

Agreed, perpetual beta testing even on finished releases. It's did a decent job though for not having the R5 MkII file.

DxO released PR4 with support for R5M2 files today.

Topaz is still trying to figure out their EULA since it PO a bunch of existing customers. They did release updates for Sony and Nikon though....
