With a shout out to JP Davis for his thread regarding new lenses and Trevor Stevenson giving a name to the malady, I think there really IS a need for a support group. Today my dear husband, also a photographer, but who has been without a camera since he gave his to his son decides he wants to replace it with an R5. Today.

So online I go, ordering his R5 to complement my R6 along with a battery grip and a spare battery for starters. It's already been shipped 2nd day air and will be here in time for us to go to the Georgia Renaissance Faire together on Saturday before he has to leave for New Jersey. Which, incidentally, is where the camera is being shipped from.

Yeah, Hubby belongs in this support group as well.

So again I ask, who is bringing the damned donuts? 😂

Anyone else have toys they're waiting on? Again?

Sounds like the Atalanta Chapter of NEDAA is alreday flourishing.

I'm waiting on a flash diffuser from Slovakia. 21 days and counting. But in the UK we are really well practiced at waiting for things since the start of 2021, so not worrying too much, yet.

We're such a spoiled lot here in the US. I used to work for Amazon's customer service, and if people didn't receive their orders WITHIN 2 days, they were demanding compensation, not realizing the "Two-Day Shipping" means two days are business days AFTER the order leaves the fulfillment center. We've totally forgotten what it was like back when we had to wait the typical 6-8 weeks anytime we ordered anything.

That said, I'm anxiously awaiting UPS's arrival today after ordering an R5 body and grip for my husband on Wednesday. I'm just as impatient as the rest. I DID however, pay for 2nd Day Air so he'd have it before he has to leave again. 😁

Haha! I'm probably buying my R5 next friday, and I think I'm just going to take the day off work to drive down into NYC and buy it in person at B&H. No worrying about when it will ship, and when it will arrive. They get my money, I get my R5 and can immediately run outside and play.

Ha! You late adopters don’t know what it means to have to wait.

”Waahhh, 2nd day air. I ordered on Wednesday and it won’t be here til Friday”

When I wanted an R5 I had to wait on a list for three shipments from the distributors. It was months before my camera was shipped and when it shipped it was from Canada, Canada Post Ground, in the snow, up hill, one way, through customs, to USPS! It took 8 calendar days to get from Toronto to Seattle.

instant this, instant that has made all you whippersnappers soft I tell ya.

:giggle::giggle::giggle::giggle:

Congrats, I agree waiting is the pits I bet you are both loving those new bodies I know I am.

Don't forget you need to charge the batteries! It takes a couple hours to get a full charge. Looking back, I would order spares from Amazon (they're good to have anyway) and have them charged ahead of time. We have the Neewer ones I'll link below, the camera recognizes them as OEM and they and the dual chargers work great. Two batteries and the charger for less than one OEM battery and with one day Prime shipping.

LOL! I remember when ANYTHING ordered was ordered by catalog (pre-internet) and you had to wait a minimum of 6 weeks to get it. No such thing as tracking, either. We've all gotten spoiled! 😁

So I think I've made a mistake. Finally decided on a date when I was going to buy my R5. Went and dropped about $1K on CF express cards. Planning on driving to B&H this Friday to buy the camera and grip.... But instead of avoiding the day or two of anticipation waiting on it to arrive from B&H I've just set myself up for a whole week of anticipating going down there to buy it lol!

At least this way I can take a couple buddies with me who've never been to B&H in person. Will be like bringing a couple kids into Toys R Us for the first time.

I would like to propose that there is a basic severe underlying problem that we all have and that we all need to face the fact that we all have a bad case of GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome). Unfortunately (?) for most photographers it is problem that doesn't get better with age and leads to many bouts of NEDAA.

The best thing about GAS and NEDAA is that when satisfied, even though for short periods of time, it leads to large releases of endorphins and bouts of unrestrained joy and happiness.

That is, until we see something else we just *have* to get.

Speak for yourself, Hali! I do NOT have this... this... "GAS." I don't!

😂😂😂

You are well on the start of having a bad case of GAS my friend!

My friend Penelope calls me the "Princess of Many Things"

I have no idea why she does that.... :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: (Oh and ignore the gold boxes to the left .... I have a mixed marriage, my husband shoots Nikon :eek:)

LMAO @ the teeth! I don't think I could do that kind of mixed marriage. Mine is bi-racial which is lovely, but Canon and Nikon? I think that would be too difficult in today's social climate. 😂

I do have much more stuff. Too many stuffs. I took the photo above (you can't tell, but it's even focus stacked) because there's a guy in a Facebook group that constantly complains about people posting their Canon boxes when their new gear arrives as if he finds it impossible to scroll on by. The next time I see him complain, I'm going to post it and tag him.

Oh man, I should dig out all my boxes. As an IT person by trade I have long had a habit of keeping boxes, spare cables of all types, manuals, etc.. I broke myself of that a few years ago of everything except my photo equipment, and I justify that by saying it helps with the resale value. But I ran out of space to store all the Canon boxes and had to move them out into dedicated bins in the garage.

That's a whole 'nuther support group, I'm afraid. I have all my old iPhone boxes back to the 6. Four and five went with the phones, I think. I finally just parted with my '15 iMac box - had to keep it because we moved - in 2017. LOL

The Canon boxes I WILL keep because if I ever sell them and need to ship, they'll go with their internal packing and manuals/warranty cards, etc.

:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: I think the mixed camera models makes it worse than the mixed religions of our marriage! We are totally socially unacceptable, lol!

I thought about taking the teeth out, but then I wondered how many would actually notice them !

I keep all my boxes, most are scattered around the house, I'm trying to herd them all into that one area in the basement. As Maralee said, they are perfect for shipping in, and lots of buyers want the original boxes even if it's a local sale. I keep my iPhone boxes too, until I sell the phone. Except for my original iPhone, I'm keeping that big brick of a thing. I have no idea why, maybe I'm hoping someone will want it for an iPhone museum someday? 😝

It sounds like that guy has gear envy (yet another support group for most of us to belong to)!

As long as you're both politically compatible, you stand a chance. :ROFLMAO:

My first iPhone was a 4. I loved that little square thing. The 12s now with the square edges are reminiscent and I really want one before they round them off again. Sadly, I don't have the box anymore.

My better half is a Jamaican, long dreads, Rastafari and all. I'm a nearly transparent caucasian non-religious type. BUT, we like many of the same foods, much of the same music and we are both Canon photographers. We enable each other but help each other out, too. It's pretty nice. 😊

I couldn't imagine being married to someone that was politically contrary to me. I know there are people out there who do it and make it work. They must like to fight alot. We are on the side of make peace not war in our marriage, which is why it's great we use different camera systems, ! The way we both look at - it I never want to borrow his lenses or cameras (other than that super sweet 14-24 that Nikon makes if only I had an adapter!) and he never wants to borrow any of mine (except for my ND filters ). So when I don't immediately cap the back of one of my lenses or change lenses in the wind he can wince all he wants, but he can't complain since he doesn't have to use the gear. Win Win!

That's totally cool that you two found each other and make each other complete with who you are. That's the best thing that anyone could ever want in a relationship.

I have friends who are polar opposites when it comes to politics. They have agreed to not discuss political matters in any way. I'm not sure how they do it, but they seem to make it work.

I am blessed. 😊

8 days from Toronto to Seattle? Thats like overnight shipping by Canada post. It takes over 8 days to get something from Toronto to Ottawa. And that's only a 5 hour drive away. Luxury I tell ya!

But that's shipping by beaver sled or something, isn't it? 😂

Here we go again... RF 70-200 is on order to be delivered on Monday. We've decided we need two of these, one for hubs and one for myself. I think we'll need to arm (thumb?) wrestle to see if this one stays home or goes on the road with him.

Oh the horrors of waiting!! :ROFLMAO: I just thought of a good reason that it's nice to have the same cameras and gear - if you break something you almost always have a backup!! I think the older one should go on the road :P

He's been taking the older lenses with him and I've been keeping the new ones at home, but I have a hunch he's going to want to take this one with him. :sneaky:
