For those that haven’t already found out. A new firmware is now available for your EOS R5.

Firmware version 1.7.0 incorporates the following fixes:

  1. Fixes an issue that, in rare instances, may result in the camera not operating normally when capturing small subjects.
  2. Fixes minor issues.
Firmware version 1.7.0 is for cameras with firmware up to version 1.6.0. If the camera's firmware is already version 1.7.0, it is not necessary to update the firmware.

Thanks for letting us know!

Let's hear from people who have done the upgrade and done some testing.
1.5.2 is totally stable for me so have not upgraded to 1.6 as it was all video centric.
Canon: Please give me 10fps in ES and a sound (like the R3) for it.

Thanks for sharing Barry. I've also posted this in the R5 forum. The R6 has also received a new firmware update.

Have installed version 1.7 this evening from Canon uk. Installed OK and just checked Camera funtioning OK.

I also downloaded v1.7 last night and installed without issue. Everything seems to be working properly, though I have not run any tests to confirm.

I installed the V1.7 to my R5 yesterday. I always hold my breath when doing these upgrades - hoping I don't mess it up somehow. But, all went well. I tested it with just a few photos today (taking close focus photographs of blooms on my flowering plum tree) -- everything seems to work fine. I'll give it a better test tomorrow when I'm spending the day in nature with camera in hand. A few people have written that they couldn't find the upgrade -- I registered my camera with Canon and they send me an email when an update is available. The email has a direct download link, that takes you to the Canon website. The tricky part (not hard) is making sure you chose the right download for your computer (Apple v Microsoft) and selecting your operating system.

So, will you be updating to the most recent firmware update, 1.8.1? Works fine with my R5. No problems encountered.
