Where do I sign up for that? I could use the extra cash.Competition is good for everyone (including those who get paid to compete)...

Yeah, I have LrC, and DxO PL9. I think I am going to drop Topaz PAI but keep Gigapixel (best upscaler), and let Neo lapse except for free up grades. (bought a lifetime license for a song, but rarely use it.)I enjoy using a range of software (it being a core aspect of my photographic hobby) and can afford it - for now...
I want to try the latest features and spend as much - or more - maintaining my DxO software as I do with Adobe.
I can certainly understand other people having a different approach and choosing where to put their hard earned.
If I had to 'drop' paying for something, it would be Topaz Labs, then DxO - I'd stick with the last versions of both.
(As mentioned, Black Friday/ sales events can be very beneficial - but on this occasion, I've updated PL-E to v9).

It's just their business model and not the only perpetual licence company that does that. Version upgrades in the fall and if you buy it within 30 days (for DXO) of the update you get it. Don't know about C1Pro or ON1 time periods but it's the same thing I believe. People get ticked off at Adobe by not understanding if you choose monthly payments you have to commit for a year. No other perpetual company will give you half your money back if you decide to stop using it after 6 months. Nor will Adobe give you some money back if pay for the whole year and decide to quit part way through.I've been using Luminar Neo for several years, and I like the user interface. I purchased the annual Pro license for a year to try out the bells and whistles, but I don't like their emphasis on AI and it's easy to over-process an image. The GenErase AI is cumbersome and inaccurate, and besides that I'd rather learn from my mistakes than erase them. The Sky AI tool is simply unserious, and anyone who uses it should be shot with a Polaroid Socialmatic. The tools I use most often are the "Essentials" like Develop, Enhance, and Self-Restraint (tm).
So I bought PL8 couple months ago. Yesterday I upgraded to PL9 (no, I still don't understand their pricing scheme) and took a few hours to process some recent images in Neo and PL9. Photolab's tools are superior to Neo's in every respect (but slightly more difficult to use) and the results are better: color rendering, lens profiles, noise reduction, etc ... and the Local Adjustments are simply fantastic.
I'll keep my "lifetime" license of Neo (until they announce its End of Life), but I've already ditched the annual Pro license.
There are bunch of quick work arounds to fix that using LrC but if you think DXO is better that is good. It will light a bigger fire under Adobe. After 3 days of fooling around, I find the masking to be better than LrC. i.e selecting a sky with a tree where in LrC the masking misses the sky areas between the branches. PL9 is much more accurate.
I'd compare it to the updated selection tool in PS, where before it would miss the spokes on a bicycle wheel and now it grabs them and ignores the background.
