I don't see why it would be more expensive than 100-500mm L which is $3k.

Oh I think it will be. a 2.8 optic is a more expensive glass than a 4.5-7.1. I'm guessing closer to 5 or 6K

Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L is $12k... I guess you're right.

Used EF 300mm f2.8 are going for mid-$4K, so yeah, $6-7K seems about where it's going to land.

I know there’s a market for the fast, expensive telephoto glass but I really hope Canon announces a few DO lenses to match Nikon’s PF offerings, and I hope they put out a 200-600 that is faster than the 100-500. If they could pull off a 200-600 f/5.6, I would be very quick to pre-order.

I was hopping for a 500 DO L type lens as soon as the R5 was announced.

Fixed aperture, 200-600, will be big/heavy/expensive. (reference the 200-400 f/4 with a 1.4ex)

At double the price of the RF 100–500, I’d give in to temptation and order the RF 300 f/2.8… and then wake in fright at 3:00 in the morning, trembling in horror at what I’d done! (Bet it would be worth it!)

It would definitely be worth it-if you can put the teleconverter on it!
