I'm not much of a nostalgia person, but I just started my 2025 folder and it made me wonder what I thought was THE photo from last year. I think it was this one, from last February - which sort of means I was wasting my time the rest of the year. :p

I asked myself what was the WORST one, too but then I realized all the truly awful ones went in the bit bucket...so I looked through for the biggest disappointment. There were a bunch that made me ask myself "Why does this exist?" but I remember taking this one and thinking it was going to be cool...but it wasn't.

I'd have to say this was my favourite. I hate shooting at that location because we face south into the sun. I used to be in our cities airport and we faced north. Lousy lighting. Changing overcast to dark light and them some blue. They said we'd never see the Lancaster and a CF18 Hornet fly together again so I pretty nervous when they went up. Pulled out the R6II as it can be a little more forgiving and is not as light hungry as the R7. If I go the shot I could always crop.

This was at a local fair. I'm not sure what I was expecting here. Never been to tractor pull before. I thought they would be hooking up tractors to each other. It was fun while we there there but the captures didn't really do it justice. They were loud, especially the older vintages. This is a serious operation. They have this fancy counter weight that gets heavier as the tractor moves forward. I got a little motion blur on the bottom of the tire when it started to spin and he the got the red flag. :)

Now that I think about it was this shot. Partial eclipse of the moon on Oct 15 and I was really exited to get out there. This is the peak if it. :( I have to point it out to see anything. Around 10 o'clock.

I’d have been too busy gawking to take pictures. Is the Lanc from Canadian Warplane Heritage? If it is, I’ve seen it.

Ummm….ok….?

I have. Not sure how you could have done it much better! At night, under the lights, with the crazy-engined ones spewing flames out the headers, or something. Maybe.

I know proper exposure should not matter between crop and FF but I've always preferred my FF bodies in overcast and/or not great lighting. Files just look cleaner to me.

According to what you wrote, the R6II is better than the R6II.... :p

Too many pictures in 2024 to go around! But here are few of my favorites:

In 2024 I decided to sale my R7 and to get a R6 Mark I. That was a happy decision. Another happy decision was to create a new blog about photography.

Regarding disappointments... Probably a trip to Mexico that I did not do.

Amazing blue eyes on the motor cycle helmet lady. I have too many regrettable photos, including some that I just do not remember taking.

As far as happy/good decisions, perhaps this ...

I just found an older Capture One catalog, that I don't remember. I'm opening it now and from the thumbnails I can see a bunch that I don't remember taking! "When the hell did I take that???" (and why?) Opening that may be my biggest regret of 2025...and it's only January!

Reconsidering my biggest fail of 2024, I have to nominate this one. I saw the leaf shadow on the right and the Venn diagram on the left and thought it was cool. Turns out it was just stupid.

Probably the best decision I made last year was when I decided to go through all my yellow tagged images ("-meh-") and practice editing. I figured I had little to lose. I learned a lot. I even "saved" a few images that I had given up on. I upgraded my editing skills from "nonexistent" to "mediocre"!

I've been referring to the practice as "polishing turds".
