Got a family freind 18th birthday this Saturday night.

Big marqee/tent 80 people rodeo theme

Any tips been playing around with flash I got giving ettl430ii

Never done flash not sure its needed all they want is one step up from phone photos and your here for party as well they said.

Choices R5 R6ii 24/70 2.8L or 70/200 2.8L

If I use flash have it angled above head?

All tips welcomed

Tilting the flash head may be a good idea if the ceiling is low enough to reflect the light. In a tent, that may cause too much light loss I think. If you could find a soft box that will go on the flash, even a smaller one would help. There are also small folding reflectors that go above a flash tilted up. If you have someone helping you, a white piece of cardboard held over the flash may do in a pinch. My Canon flashes, 600ex, have a small white pice of plastic that I can pull out. That helps add a little fill and mainly catchlight into the eyes. I am not sure if the 430 series has that too. From the same edge where I can pull out that reflector a diffusion panel comes out if you want to point the flash to the subjects.

Best of luck.

Thanks im really pretty Sure it will be very well lit. Use R6 just in case??

The Canon R6 Mark II generally handles low light better than the Canon R5, despite the R5 having a higher-resolution sensor.
