New member here. Am STRONGLY considering the EOS R5 as my first "good" digital camera. I'm an old 35mm film guy who used to do all of his own b&w darkroom work back in prehistoric times.

My main focus (ha!) will be macro shots of plants and insects and whatnot, and birds that I find in my area. Mostly songbirds, but there are some raptors in the area and shore birds as well. And whatever else I happen across that is interesting.

Haven't explored the board enough to know where to ask (or look for it already answered), but I am particularly interested in asking about how well the R5 handles moving subjects and what I need to do as the operator, to increase my chances of getting a nice clear, sharp, and clean image.

Thanks!

Welcome Bob and thanks again for joining up here and saying hello. The R5 is a very nice choice for your 'first digital' digital camera. We have a birds forum where you'll find lots of shots of birds in flight taken with the R5 or ask for tips. You can also make use of our Instaview tool and filter by birds and the Canon R5 to simply view images.

The R5 does handle fast action pretty well with the default settings, but there are also lots of customizations and tweaks that you can make. I'd recommend taking a look at this excellent video from Ron since he covers everything in detail.

Fast, sharp, and lightweight! A great lens
This is my main workhorse of a lens and I love it. It's very light weight (only around 2.3 lbs) lens. I've been able to hand-hold it for an event...
