Hi Everyone,
I am pleased to have found this Group. I have been a Canon user since the 1980s. My first camera was a Canon AE-1 which I still have and which the last time I ran a film through it about 20 years ago, was still working perfectly.
I am at a crossroads camera wise. I am very tempted by the new R5. I currently have a 5D & 7D and I joined the Group to find how other folks are getting along with their R5.
Kind regards to all.

Welcome! I currently have the R6 as I don't plan to get very deep into video, and the huge file sizes of the R5 raw images put me off a bit. I don't crop much when doing portraits, and 20mp print out even the largest prints very nicely. The second card slot being a CF card is also a turn off for me. Oh, if I could only configure the camera to suit myself. LOL

Anyway, not trying to sway YOUR choice, just sharing my own thoughts on why I went with the R6 instead. The price wasn't really the only issue, but it was nice to put money into RF glass and other accessories.

Very many thanks for your reply. I am a blank sheet at the moment so any alternative ideas or thoughts are always welcome. Much appreciated. I will give that some thought.

Welcome Barry and thank you for joining up here and introducing yourself. I'm very happy with my R5, I mostly shoot wildlife so the extra resolution over the R6 really helps for cropping. Of course the lens helps too! I'm using the RF 100-500 which is incredibly light and very sharp.

Very many thanks Timothy. It was the extra resolution which tempted me too.
I have a demo coming up so I can try my EF lenses in low light on an R5.
If all goes well, my credit card will be twitching :ROFLMAO:

Very tempted by the R5 but my credit card might have a heart attack, file size huge .Going on European coach trip to Austria ,to see lakes ,thinking about buying a EOS M6 mirrorless ,with the ef 32m lens as a travel companion,as I don't want to cart a big camera bag with me.Any thoughts anyone.

I've never used the EOS M6 but I do prefer smaller crop cameras for travelling light, I normally pack my Sony a6400 with an 18-135mm lens. I guess it depends what you are planning to shoot but you might find a zoom lens more flexible than a prime. I'd only take a full-frame like the R5 if photography was the primary focus of the trip or I didn't have a smaller camera to pack.

Like you, I started in the early 2000's with the first DSLR Rebel. I then went through two other Canon camera bodies and landed with the 5D Mark III. Gosh but I loved that camera but I got into birds and needed more pixels so I made the jump to the R5 body and lenses. I can't tell you I don't love it but it's a sophisticated piece of equipment and I only got to shoot with it for five months before I had surgery and was laid up for five months. Now it's like starting all over again and I'm missing my 5D but I know it's just a matter of getting back on that horse again. I sit here and I wonder, however, if they are going to grow the R5 lineup the way they did the 5D. And then I wonder what the R5 MII would look like???? I have some problems with the camera. The battery life is frustrating but doable but shouldn't have happened at all but I knew it when I purchased it so I'm rather OK with it. I have had some burst problems. And when I went to shoot it last week there is a problem when I put my Hood Lens up to the LED screen, the picture goes away as if I were putting my eye to the eye piece and it never did that before. But the camera sat for five months without use and I failed to take out the battery. Could that be causing a slight electrical problem ,not sure. I usually don't purchase new camera models but rather wait for the upgrade. I haven't decided if I'm trading up this body should Canon go this way. Do I regret my decision to purchase now, not really. I mostly regret having to relearn the camera all over again!!

Very many thanks Michelle. I am now the proud owner of an R5. I've only had it a few days but I really do love it. As you say, lots to learn but I'm already a convert. Thank you very much for posting your thoughts, much appreciated
