Good day all,

I decided to go mirrorless and buy the Canon R7 with the RF-S 18-150 lens for lightweight daily walkaround/travel, stepping up from my loyal EOS80D since 2018.
Before that I had EOS 60D, and the EOS xxxD earlier, even the Rebel Ti I think.

I had been in doubt for a while between going entry level FF with the R8 or the higher end cropped R7 and decided for the R7 in the end for a more high end camera with more functionality and mech shutter option for sports. Hope I made the right choice. Waiting for the camera to arrive.

Im a casual hobby photographer, landscapes, cities, sometimes sports (hockey and formula 1 car racing). Sometimes a party/portraits and quite some video shooting as well for business promo's and holiday footage, combined with drone shots and Hero action cam, like this one:

The Magic of Scotland

I was more comfortable with the R7 15fps mechanical shutter compared to the relative slow 6fps 1st curtain shutter on the R8 and risk for rolling shutter at 40fps and small buffer (1 second).

I will keep my EF-S 10-18 4.5-5.6 stm. Other efs lenses i sold together with the 90D (efs 15-85 usm, ef 70-300 usm, and 18-135 nano usm, all quite old).

Will add up some other lenses in near future once some experience with the camera, considering the new Sigma 18-50 f2.8 and the EF-S 55-250 4-5.6 STM (used @ USD 175)
Often when I go to an event like F1, max zoom lens allowed is 300mm....

Happy to hear any advices/tips.

I actually have been taking mostly photo's with my iphone recent years and want to get back to my Canon Camera.
Getting a lightweight set is one of the incentives to grab my canon eos more often again on the road.

Here's 2 shots taken with my Iphone in Scotland, last year.

Welcome to the forum! Great to hear about your switch to the Canon R7, sounds like a smart move for lighter travel and still excellent image quality.
Your Scotland photos look amazing — crisp and vibrant! Looking forward to seeing more of your shots.

Welcome Bert and thank you for posting the link to that beatiful video of Scotland. We are at least a days drive from the Higlands and would love to go back again. All those places look so familiar with previous road trips. I am sure you will enjoy the new camera and soon appreciate the difference.
