'Hi' to you all,

Phil and Karen - Refugees from DPReview...

We are enthusiastic R5 and R7 hobbyist shooters - happy to have joined you in these forums and looking forward to participating (once we get fully settled in!).

As well as the camera/ lens side of things, we shoot raw and post-process using: Adobe Lightroom Classic and Photoshop; DxO PhotoLab Elite, FIlmPack, ViewPoint and Nik Collection; and the Topaz Labs photography apps.

We had been hosting the 'Monthly R System Images' on the Canon EOS R Talk Forum on DPReview and hope to contribute to the challenges which already exist here.

(For now we're just saying 'bye' to our friends and tidying a few things up over on DPReview before it slides into the abyss - but, we'll be back!).

:)

Welcome Phil and Karen and thanks for joining up here.

We are only a small forum but will no doubt grow a little more now after the sad news that DPReview is to close. I really hope that their content and forum posts don't disappear completely, that would be criminal!

It sounds like you have already discovered our Photography Challenges Forum :) We also plan to start a monthly competition as well soon.

Just let us know if you have any additional ideas or questions about the forum.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for your warm welcome - appreciated! I suspect there will be more people migrating here in the coming weeks.

(I have already pointed some people to this site and will be providing a link when we post our final 'monthly' your images thread in due course).

As I understand it, unless something changes in the meantime, DPReview will be locked on 10th April and completely deleted a little while later.

The loss in terms of knowledge and friendships alone is truly gut wrenching - but we must also remember that some people have lost their jobs.

Anyway, there you go - it is what it is - hopefully you'll be here for a while... (y)

Welcome to the community Phil and Karen,

It is good to see you here. I have been a member for a while here and actually have been visiting here more than DPReview in the last months. I think there are a really good bunch of people participating here and lots of good information is shared.

So again...welcome and enjoy.

Hi Bryan,

Thank you for your warm welcome - much appreciated! It's good to find a new home and we're looking forward to contributing to these forums once our departure from DPReview has been completed.

Best wishes,

Phil and Karen

Welcome to the group - I wasn't aware of the DPReview situation until today. I've been an irregular user of it for many years. Sad to see it disappear.

Hi Graham,

Thank you for your welcome. We were not aware of the impending doom until it was announced out of the blue yesterday.

It’s fair to say we’re still somewhat stunned by the suddenness of it all and the impending loss of many on-line friendships.

Unless there’s some 11th hour change of fortune, the photographic community will be down one rich and diverse resource.

There’s always a positive and the warm welcomes we have received from the community here have been of great comfort.

Best wishes,

Phil and Karen

Good to see you here. Hopefully there’s room for your monthly R-System images threads in this forum somewhere. Or maybe we’ll find something like it. I appreciated that it was never a challenge nor for C&C. Just a place to share our love of photography and photos.

Hi JustUs7,

Good to see you here too!

We tend to start slow, settle in, then gather speed - but maybe we’ll suggest that to the Admin in a while and see if there’s any appetite for such threads. (We also wouldn’t want to just barge in and step on anyone’s toes).

In addition, we’re sat in a soggy campsite in Bristol right now, so connectivity is a tad hit and miss…
