Last Sunday, I decided to do a hike up a local mountain (Mt. Hongu 本宮山) on a hot and humid sunny day. Lots of sweat, but nice to get out on a dry day during the rainy season. At the top, there's an upper shrine that's part of a main shrine below in the City of Toyokawa (Toga Jinja 砥鹿神社), as well as the actual summit a little above, which affords great views of Toyokawa and Toyohashi City, and the Atsumi Peninsula, which separates the Pacific Ocean from the Mikawa Bay.
1. The torii (gate) at the start
2. The long ascent.
3. The upper shrine.
4. Mt. Fuji way off in the distance.
5. A massive torii on the approach from the other side.
6. A smaller torii with the name of the shrine.
7. A Japanese sugi スギ (a cryptomeria) that has been standing next to the shrine for over 1000 years.
8. A view looking south from the summit.
