My Bug Pictures

I thought I would put a couple of my bug pictures on here for all of the insect aficionados on the site. Love is in the air down here in Southeast Georgia, and the love bugs are in full heat. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for romance, passion, and a good time, but damn, do it out in the woods, not out in the middle of the road. Just look at all the romantic liaisons that were interrupted by a windshield going 65 miles per hour. We were going up to Newberry, South Carolina for a concert by Tuba Skinny (they were excellent-search for them on YouTube). Thankfully I was able to remove the star-crossed lovers with some glass cleaner and a scrub brush.

I like the “Splatometer”!!
Bugs are important, and some of them are irritating, but they all have their place. That’s a worthwhile study. I don’t know if we have anything similar in the States, I’ll have to look.

I don’t have any photos from a previous trip, but based on personal observation, I don’t think they are as bad this season as they have been in years past. That may not be a good thing from an ecological standpoint. I can remember a trip I took years ago to Tampa, Florida, and about halfway in the trip, my windshield was so covered in splatted love bugs that it was impossible to see clearly. I had to pull over and get a bucket full of ditch water and clean a hole in the dead bugs to see through the windshield. It was a dried on scaly paste of dead bugs.
