The good news: "this battery is compatible with Canon LC-E6 and LC-E6E battery chargers." I already have two of the LC-E6. The obvious question is whether the LP-E6NH batteries for my R6/7 will power the R5II.

Edit: According to the video review posted elsewhere, the old battery won't allow 8K video recording. But I won't be doing that anyway.

Humour me, the battery will work in the R5’s?
The PetaPixel video review says older R series cameras will require a firmware update to use the new battery.

According to Jan Wegener’s review you have to use this new battery in order to get the new, usable, pre-burst function on the R5II

There is always a BUT…

Canon will delay that firmware upgrade for long time and may be some R will never get it.

If you have an older camera body presumably you have batteries so I don't see a problem . Am I missing something?

This appears to be a more powerful battery so if it's compatible with our R cameras you will get more battery life.

Was going to add this. The 8K video is a known. Pre-burst may be something that could be current-charge dependent as Jan is the only person to mention it. I know someone I can check with on this after the weekend.

I'm also wondering about 3rd party batteries in the Mark II, but I suspect anyone who Canon respected enough to hand a pre-release version to will respect their relationship enough not to test that until they start shipping. They work fine in the first release so I'm not worried, just wondering.

According to another video I watched yesterday this battery has the same amount of juice than the old canon battery, the difference is in how this juice is released. The new battery will release the juice more evenly. That means that even if we could potentially used in our old Rs, we may not see that much of difference on battery life.

as long as firmware upgrade allows both betteries types to be used not just new one

Canon Asia has more information than I could find on our Canon Europe website. Of course, I could not find any definitive information on the amp output of an LP-E6NH, or other versions, to compare it to. I guess we have to assume that the previous versions could not deliver 6A and the R5MkII needs at least 6A.

So, I can imagine that my EOS R would not see any benefit from an LP-E6P over an LP-E6NH. The same will probably be true for anything except the R5MkII. But, if I have to buy new batteries in the future, I will definitely buy LP-E6Ps just in case I am gifted an R5MkII.... :D

Updating this topic, the latest firmware updates added support for this battery to the R6, R5 and R7. I wonder if any member has used the new battery with the old cameras.

They still seem to be in short supply. I've got one on order, and the dealer told me that of the 100 he'd ordered, he was expecting only 40 - "sometime soon".

They can ship the camera but not the batteries? Someone at Canon (or one of their suppliers) really screwed up.

in stock in my store "limited" 1 per customer at moment

going to nz once twice a year from now on should catch up. Mangawhai grand daughter
If that's the Mangawhai in Northland, it's a) a nice place, and b) a long way from us... We're 50km north of Christchurch (east coast South Island). But if you get down this way, be good to catch up. Not so many thunderstorms here though... ;-)

We do get to Aussie from time to time - we'll be with friends in Brisbane in a couple of weeks, and we have family in Sydney, but seldom get out into the back blocks...

Adorama has them on stock as well.

correct

And lo, and behold, I dropped into the photo shop today, and the teaboy (boss) had a battery for me. Mind you, he was keen to emphasise how privileged I was... ;)

I ordered one from Adorama to test in my R6 and it´s on my way. I do not think that makes sense to buy more of the old NH batteries.

I received my new LP-E6P, funny thing, it's actually made by Panasonic Energy Co LTD. I will test it in my R6 this weekend.
