Or the proper name of Papilio montrouzieri. Endemic to New Caledonia in the South Pacific. I spotted a blue flash as I was exiting the Tjibaou Cultural Center in Noumea area. It was the first time I got close to a butterfly. It was in deep shade and forced me to shoot at a higher ISO than I like for small targets.

The butterfly is just about to land on the flower and already has it’s Proboscis out to sample the nectar on the flower. Wings folded the butterfly just about disappears, wings spread it sends a flash of iridescent blue.
