Wall of bottles at Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, across the Rhine river from Koblenz. The site of the fortress, on a defensive bluff at the confluence of the Rhine and Mosel rivers, has been occupied in one form or another for 5,000 years, but the current structure dates from 1818.

The Kioiseido building in downtown Tokyo , by architect Hiroshi Naito . Described by the architect as a building without a function . The contrast between the warmth of the wooden details and the coldness of the concrete . The light pouring in from the top "windows" into the sky .

Just got back from a holiday in Mauritius and I was captivated by the colours and patterns on this endemic species, the Ornate Day Gecko. A couple hung out in the bar area so that was handy!!

A big thank you to everyone who took part in this months competition. It's interesting to see everyones take on our pattern theme with a wide variety of entries.

In 1st place with 7 votes was @PKM-UK with a lovely glass pattern taken at Cragside, Rothbury, Northumberland, England. I can only guess this was a window Phil?
In 2nd place with 6 votes was @funjp with a beautiful architectural shot of the Kioiseido building in downtown Tokyo.
Also in joint 2nd place with 6 votes was @miuzi with a stunning collection of very interesting plants. Sorry that I have no idea what they are!
In 3rd place with 5 votes was @Nick L with a lovely shot of Harpa Hall in Iceland taken with a fisheye lens.

Well done everyone and thanks again for taking part and keeping these fun monthly competitions going.

November is almost here and I'll be kicking off our next competition on Friday. Our theme for November will be After Dark.

Hi Tim,

A big 'thank you' to you for arranging another fun competition - and a huge 'thank you' to everyone who voted for my entry (much appreciated!).

A fascinating collection of images, with my entry being an internal window intended to provide additional daytime light from a small inner atrium.

(Cragside, home of industrialist William Armstrong, was the first house in the world to be Illuminated by hydro-electricity and powered by hydraulics).

Again some excellent images in the selection. I like the ideas of different interpretations of the themes. They give you ideas to try for yourself and might even motivate me to buy a replacement lens for the ones I had stolen. Currently I have nothing shorter than the EF 85mm 1.8 STM .
