I thought this video was really interesting.

How much was skill? How much was luck? I suspect the former is required, and the latter really, really helps....

The photographers they interviewed, they're working in jobs that are very tough to get. They've gotta be good. In that whole piece, there's not a ton of game-action shots. It's the before and after and in between moments shooters like this seem to have a knack for. Maybe they're just good at getting lucky.

You are right, it's being in the right place at the right time. When I am birdwatching I tend to wait and they will come to me.
