What is everyone's thoughts on the viability of the R3 in 2026?
I may have the opportunity to pick up a used R3 at a good price. Though it's supposed to be in only fair condition. I haven't seen it yet and don't know what the shutter count is.
Is the R3 a worthwhile addition to an R6 mkII in 2026? I'm probably not going to replace the R6 mkII anytime soon, so this will be in addition to. I like the form factor, the integrated grip, larger battery, and the 195fps seems like it could be useful in some instances. Also like the fact that it's a 24mp, and better low light than the R5 mkII. The 5ms read out speed and the BSI sensor for the electronic shutter, no rolling shutter also seem worthwhile. And the more advanced auto focus than the R6 mkII, which isn't bad by any means.
On the other hand, the R6 mkIII has open gate, which would be great for using with my anamorphic lenses. But I'm hesitant with the 32 mp file sizes and the low light is just a touch worse than the mkII. I would still need to get the battery grip for the mkIII.
So, the question, in 2026: a used R3? Or a new R6 mkIII?
