Hello RFshooters! I picked up a refurbished R7 from canon for Black Friday. I’ve rented a few of them in the past for airshows and have had great success. Today I took it out for the first time to capture the local F35s departing. Going through my pictures I noticed green/magenta lines across the entirety of the image. They are not consistent, they move around in the frame. These are the first few images that I took with the camera. A few minutes later, I did get a crisp shot of one of the last jets. I’ll attach the images of the lines, cropped in to see them, and the final crisp shot. I’m just wondering if this is a normal “break-in” type process, or if this is an issue that I should contact canon about? Thank you in advanced for your help!

Hi Steven,

Sorry to read of your woes. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a 'break in process' and what you're seeing here is definitely not normal.

It would be worth trying another memory card, just to check that isn't the issue. but unless this results in a complete cure I'd contact Canon.

(I'm no expert, but that's looking like it could be either a sensor, or data processing/ writing problem? The latter being the reason to try another SD card).

If you do find the actual cause, perhaps come back and let us know - this may help others who experience similar issues in the future.

Good luck... :)

Phil

I have seen this phenomenon with SDCard corruption specially with v60 cards with slow writing speed.

You have 3 mayor variables affecting your pictures and that could be the cause:
1- Faulty or not good enough memory card
2- Issues with the lens or contact points between the lens and the camera body
3- Issues with your R7.

You need to scratch points from this list.
1- Use a different card, a better one
2- If point one does not fix the issue replace the lens or clean the contacts between lens and camera
3- If 2 does not fix the issue then... You need to contact Canon Support because you got a faulty camera.

Thank you both for your responses! I went to switch SD cards despite the one that was used being new and high class. Once swapped I flipped the camera on and with the lens cover on I saw these lines playing across the screen. This makes me think that it is something with the camera itself if these lines are always there. I will contact canon and see what they say. Thanks again

Keep in mind that the issue disappeared when the ISO was at 320. I may have been not enough light for that lens which is not a good lens (compared to an L lens).

Do you have any other lens where you can reproduce the same test that you just did?

Another test is having the camera on showing the issue like you have it in your last 3 pictures, remove the lens and put it back. Play attention to the screen to see if the issue persists when the lens is removed.

Also, switch the camera setting to Aperture Priority or Manual mode. A+ tries to set the whole camera for "better" results and it may screw the whole thing when shooting on poor lighting conditions.

Hi Steven,

Given that you've switched cards and the problem has persisted - those additional examples are fairly alarming - it's looking a bit terminal (to me).

(Karen has an R7 and I have an R5 and we never see this phenomenon being exhibited - whatever the lens/ settings/ shooting circumstances :( ).

Maybe others can suggest something for you to try, but otherwise I hope Canon support will step up to the mark and get everything sorted for you.

I agree with Phil, I have not been able to reproduce the issue on the R7 screen. Considering that it's a refurbished one I would contact Canon and ask for a replacement.

It's a faulty camera. Refurb = used. I suspect a previous owner noticed the fault and returned it to the merchant, and it ended up at Canon as a refurb item.

Of course there are lots of things you could try, but no camera should behave like that ever.
