Canon R7 R7II?

If Canon released A true successor to the 7DII ? A R5 with a BSI APSC sensor. Excels at sports and Bird photography and video. Priced around the R6 series. Would you buy it? Another birding season approaching and still no R7II. I live in State of Washington and Fall-Winter birding are very popular. You Need at least a 800MM lens in most places. With very little light. The reward can be spectacular.

I pretty much had a crop and a FF all of the time in my DLSR days. I'm in a very indecisive state about this. Started with the R. Sold it for the R5. Sold it for the R6II and R7. Sold the R7. Last November I traded up to the R6III.

It was kinda my path testing out what it would be like to just have one body. I'm very happy with the R6III. It may not have the reach of a crop body or the mp's of the R5 & R5II but with a 1.4 TC it plays nice with the 100-500. So did my R6II but now I can crop more.

One thing I have found. As simple as it is, I hate changing lenses. My RF 24-105 F4 lived on my FF when I had the R7. If I do get the F7II it will put the R6III back to an urban walk-around, landscape tool. A bit of a waste of the advanced subject to detect and eye detection AF - for my uses.

So I don't know. Jan Wegener said this fall for the R7II and that changed. Canon Rumors has it pegged in the 1st quarter of 2027. February?

I definitely want to hold it and take some shots before I possibly buy it. Actually if it will not be out by January, I may just pick up the R again. Same sensor as my old 5D4 and I loved both.

I doing pretty good with R6III for wildlife so I'm really torn right now. More real estate to work with for BIF, particularly those small fast birds. However AF improves bit without the TC.

Plus I tend to get really bad GAS now and then. Just not enough toys in the sandbox.

R6III with 1.4. Crops pretty good in post. I had the TC on when I shot this but was tracking something closer when I spotted this.

I am very looking forward to the R7 II but realistically, I think it will be a while. Canon releases major crop bodies at 6 to 7 year intervals. 7D in 2009, 7D II in 2015, R7 in 2022. See the pattern? So the R7 II might be released in 2028 or 2029.

I'm hoping for 2027, though.

When I had the R7 I shot with both the 1.4 on and off the 100-500. It was very but decided to take the 1.4 off for a year. Keeper rates exploded. Depending on the lighting sometimes the TC will show a little fringing. Not CA.

I guess there is the R8II. No stacked sensor but the readout speed is twice as fast as the R7. You lose some mp's but it should have some of the latest advanced Subject To Detect and Eye Detect algorithms. Rumours say the R7II will have 40mp which would make it a significant spread compared to the R8II. Me thinks the R7II will be pricy.
