Here is my latest rant:

As you know the second full moon in a month is referred to as a blue moon and is constantly referred to as RARE in the news. Between 1950 and 2099 there will be 62 blue moons.

Is that rare? In the same time period there HAVE BEEN 2 transits of Venus, 2004 and 2012 with the next even to occur in 2117.

I got to see and photograph the Transit of Venus in 2012, a twice in a lifetime event, compared to the potential 42 in a lifetime events of a rare blue moon.

The two this month are both Supermoon's, a full moon at the moon's closest point to earth in its orbit. So, the full moon on the 30th is a Super Blue Moon. The last was in 2018 and the next will be in 2037. Don't know if that makes it feel better.
