I enjoy imaging wildlife that I cannot identify...that's where Google search comes in.
I did an image search using the images below:
...the image search suggests 'Red-spotted Purple Butterfly'.
Then Googling for 'Red-spotted Purple Butterfly' leads to an AI summary page which includes this passage:
"While they have a wingspan ranging from 2.3 to 4.0 inches, they are notable for preferring moisture and nutrients from mud puddles or decaying fruit over nectar."
Note the mudpile in each image
