Thanks again to everyone who entered last months competition. A new month has begun and so that means a new competition.

This Month's Theme
The theme for this months competition is Close-up / Macro. If you need some inspiration then I'd suggest taking a look at our Close-up / Macro Thread.

Entries start: The date that this post is published.
Entries end: September 20th at 3am Eastern Time (9am GMT)
Voting starts: September 20th at 3am Eastern Time (9am GMT)
Voting ends: September 27th at 3am Eastern Time (9am GMT)

What Do I Get if I Win?
I'm afraid it's just the joy of taking part but I will be adding badges to winners profiles.

How to Enter + Rules

1. Post your entries in this thread by scrolling down to the reply box then hitting the 'upload images' button. Insert image as full image not thumbnail.
2. Canon R Series cameras only. Adapted lenses on R Series bodies are fine.
3. Camera metadata must be included in the images to verify.
4. Only one photo entry per member.
5. Keep the photos clean and family friendly.
6. Please don't use sky replacements or AI image generation.
7. You are free to change you image during the entry period.

How to Vote (when voting opens)

1. Use the vote button (up arrow) to the right of the post (below post on mobile) to vote up images that you like
2. You can vote on as many images as you like apart from your own

The nearest to macro photography I usually get is with my 100-500mm. The Hummingbird Hawkmoth is occasionally seen as far north as where I live and it's the nearest thing to Hummingbird photography I'll get at home. They move extremely quickly, just like a Hummingbird , as they dart from flower to flower. Great fun trying to capture an image though.

I just acquired, after wanting one ever since buying my R8, a used RF 100mm f/2.8 macro lens. I haven't done too much with it yet, but on a dusky walk with my kids the day after it arrived, my preschool-aged daughter picked a dandelion and gave it to me, and it was perfectly clear of the fluffy flyaway seed bits on one side. I held it up to my lens and snapped a quick photo, but the light, leading to the camera pushing to a fairly high ISO inducing some noise, coupled with the absolute top-shelf quality of this lens, made for a really lovely and dreamy image that I'm quite fond of.

Just a simple drop of water on a blank DVD. I used a Meike 11mm and 18mm extension tubes. The front of the lens was about 1 inch from the water.

A big thank you to everyone who took part in last months competition. Yet again we've had some superb submissions for our macro / close-up month.

In 1st place with 10 votes was @Dave Williams with a splendid shot of a Hummingbird Hawkmoth captured with his RF 100-500.
In 2nd place with 5 votes was @AOC with a cracking shot of what looks like a Eyelash Pit Viper, but I could be wrong!
Also in joint 2nd place with 5 votes was @Doug B with a splendid pair of blue-tail damselflies mating.
In 3rd place with 4 votes was @Dean Wilson a very creative shot of a simple water drop on a cd.

Well done everyone and thanks again for taking the time to enter.
