This particular owl was mostly sleeping on this branch. It was daytime; that's what owls do in the day. It had its eyes closed almost all the time, which is not good for photos. It did open them for a short time, but I don't think it was particularly looking at anything. You can see it is cross-eyed. To me the owl looks dopey.

Not all owl species are nocturnal. Some are diurnal and sleep at night. Some are mainly crepuscular.
