Hi everyone,
I'm new here and new to Canon and looking at getting the R5C. I'm trying to put a lens list together for my purposes which at present would be the bare minimum to migrate over from my Pentax K1 and Nikon D500 systems and be light enough to whack into a backpack for aircraft travel.
As I mentioned in the Intro portion of the forum my interests are wildlife, landscape, macro, astro, and video.
For wildlife currently I use the Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6 and 600mm f/4, while for astro I have a few old Nikon lenses but my main goto lens is the Pentax 15-30mm. I do have a 28-105mm variable lens for the Pentax but it doesn't produce pin point stars sadly.
So far I'm thinking about doing something like this, which has vlogging and video documentaries in mind additionally:
RF 15-35mm f/2.8
RF 100mm f/2.8 macro
RF 200-800mm
I could always swap the 15-35 with a 10-20mm but there is a big difference between f/4 and f/2.8 though then you just need more time for astro
I'm really lost on the mid range though so I was considering the 24-105mm f/4 as it's light and from my reading seems to be good for daytime shooting and video in addition... however, some sources stated it wasn't that much of a good low light lens and there is no weather sealing?
The 24-105mm f/2.8 Z looks like a good option though I haven't really researched it much yet; the downside to this is that it's big, heavy and expensive.
Then of course the whatever they're called "holy trinity/triad" lenses of 24-70 and 70-200mm. They seem smaller and lighter then the 24-105mm f/2.8 but what kind of advantage would they offer....? Ok going up to 200mm, however, down the line I was looking at the 100-500mm anyway so there would be quite a bit of overlap.
It's a difficult decision!!
Maybe one factor when considering things is that I am planning on getting a "star tracker" too like the MSM Nomad which has a 3.5kg weight limit. Perhaps the 100-500mm and 200-800mm would exceed that?
Ok I know this is a lens talk portion but when used with the 100mm macro, I have read that the R5C is limited in its focus stacking ability? As in it can't take RAW images? Is this true? If so I probably need to grab a rail which is fine though a little frustrating I guess....
Thanks for any feedback
