I shoot a lot of local races and on yesterdays I completely missed the second place finisher along with a few other finishers. I’m set up for case one, was using servo of course with eye detect on. I tracked the guy right up to the finish line then my focus point just jumped to another person around the finish line. I completely missed him. Is there another case I should be using or adjustments that I need to make to case 1, I Haven’t made any adjustments to it otherwise. Thanks for any advice, I’m signed up to shoot my areas biggest race and I don't need any issues At the finish line.

I was told by my Canon guy for my wildlife shooting, and it's been confirmed by what I've heard in interviews with multiple pro sports and action photographers, that on the R's it's best just to put it on Auto and not worry about it. I switched to Canon as I went mirrorless, and I understand that choosing the right case played a far bigger role with their DSLR's, but with mirrorless everyone is saying "Auto".

I have been fooling with cases as well shooting moving wildlife. I'll have to try auto. Thanks for the tip.

Case 1 is fine, I use it all the time, however if I'm photographing runners, cyclists etc I have it set up to switch eye focus on and off on one of the back buttons. If there is just one runner, I use eye focus, if more then one I switch it off and use single point focus.

Great suggestion and I’m going to experiment with that. Thanks!
