Congrats on the new lens! Gordon’s content is always top notch. I thought about getting that lens, but instead ended up with the RF 85 f/2.0. It’s been a great lens with the added benefit of being able to do psudo macro with it.

I just received my new Sony 100-400mm F4.5. Wonderful, well-balanced lens that may very well become my 'goto' on the A1II.

The EF 17-40 f/4 is sold.

(My 'glass' is all EF, on account of a mix of mirrored and mirrorless bodies. Plus the cost.)

Replacement 'toy' on order (watch this space, or have a guess). It weighs a 'bit' more.

I bought a new kind of lens hood for my RF 100mm macro lens. I never shoot macro with a hood, actually. It gets in the way. But lately I'm suspecting some flare from my diffuser, with stray light hitting the front element. A shallow lens hood should be able to fix that. I have the OEM hood, but it is too long and I don't want to cut it up.

So I bought this Veatree knockoff off Amazon. It comes in two parts. There is a ring with a 67mm filter thread that threads onto the lens. The actual hood snaps onto this ring using four little ball bearings. Once on, the petal-shaped hood can be rotated to suit. The ring accepts the Canon lens cap, and so does the hood.

The quality seems great, and the hood is small enough to have little effect on the lighting.

I have been researching ways into making taking photographs of ceilings in old, high buildings (churches, cathedrals, abbeys etc) more comfortable. I am a mobility scooter user and have purchased the Smallrig handlebar clamp and the Newer low profile 36mm ball head.

Standing to take these photographs is difficult for me, so I decided to find a solution to my leaning right over the back of my scooter to get these kinds of photos. Taking photographs like this gives me chronic pain in my shoulders and back for a few days after, but I don't give in because the shots looking completely up often contain details you would miss if you never looked up at all.

I will post a photo when they are mounted on my scooter.

Yeah, but been reading that if you use the pre-continuous shooting (pre-capture) feature expect a lot of culling. I'm going to have to be careful with that feature.

New Leofoto tripod (LN-364C) and 4-way geared head (G4PROM). Also, a RRS leveling base. I continue to be impressed with the quality of Leofoto gear. Its not at the level of RRS, but for half the cost (or less?) it get the job done with no complaints.

Assign it to a button, then you can quickly switch on/off as you need it, this will help reduce the culling needed, but will still leave a lot to do. It is a fantastic feature as you don't need to use DPP to extract the images you want like in the earlier version.

You can set how many frames to buffer before you take the shot in the red camera menu. I moved mine to 8 where the default is 15. It helps reduce the culling and so far its worked well capturing BIF.
