I want to know "what it is, how it works and if I can break it".

I saved a depth map stack out of Helicon, just for excrement and hilarity. When I opened it, and it was all grainy - as it's supposed to be - I wondered if I could make Topaz Denoise lose it's little mind, so I tried...and the output looked exactly like the input. Disappointed, I took it into PhotoAI and told it to denoise it, sharpen it and balance the colors. Miracles were not worked:
