Hope everybody up north makes it ok during this winter storm. I have no concept of what serious cold is. Down here in coastal Georgia we panic when it gets below 40 degrees. Y’all be careful, and remember to help your neighbors when you can.

Send pictures if it doesn’t put you at risk.

Well, the cold front has blown thru and the temps are dropping. Its going to be 5-8 degrees tonight and won't get above freezing for the next week. The snow kicks in tomorrow night, then changes to sleet and freezing rain on Sunday.

Tomorrow I have to get some gas for the snowblower, get it revved up (its been a few years) and then head to the booze store for reinforcements. What good is getting snowed in if you can't have an 'adult' hot chocolate??!?

Pics to follow on Sunday, I'm sure.

I can’t even comprehend that. The lowest temp I have ever seen is 9 degrees one year in Birmingham Alabama, and it was for only one night. We had our version of “hot chocolate” as well. Stay warm.

I spent lots of years in cold climates when I was younger (Minnesota, Germany, Norway) and it's not that bad if you're prepared. We used to go cross country skiing in below zero weather, and one time my dad's eyeball got so cold an ice crystal formed inside it. He said it hurt.

These days I prefer warmer weather.

I guess you learn how to deal with it, but still…..
Alternatively, we have summers with above 100 degrees and 100 percent humidity. Some people pay good money for a sauna. We just walk outside and sit in a lawn chair.

LOL, the difference is that you can almost always put on another layer when its cold....

... but when it's too hot, there's only so much you can take off and remain, umm... Socially acceptable.

 🤣

Not only socially acceptable, but at some point the law gets involved….

Well, since you asked -

This was yesterday. This morning it only got down to 23 below.

Holy moley!!! Y’all must have a REALLY good heater. Maybe a blast furnace.

-35 Celsius is common where I live. Most homes in my city have gas powered furnaces. Some have electric ones or baseboard heaters. Most homes with gas furnaces have AC units for when it hits +35 Celsius in the summer. We have weather that is a little extreme :) We had a cottage in the Canadian Boreal forest for about 30 years that we used in the winter. Nothing beats the heat of a wood stove. I used to say the hotter you make it the more clothes the girls take off :)

Oh man, I miss my old wood stoves! My first home had a Fisher wood stove - that thing positively glowed when it got cranked up. My next house I installed a big honking wood stove insert into the basement fireplace. I can't remember the model, but it did have a catalytic converter. That fireplace had a 20-foot wall of brick and raised hearth - it turned into a lovely heat sink after a day or two of heating. No wood stove today, but I do have a real masonry wood-burning fireplace (a rarity in my suburban neighborhood). I'd like to put in a stove insert, but they are expensive and I'd have to put in a chimney liner.

Remember: Real men heat with wood!
