The Farm

AKA: Multnomah County Correction Facility (MCCF) abandoned-ish.

The property is currently owned by McMenamins (a local chain of pub's, hotel's, breweries, and entertainment venues.) that uses the property for storage. It is adjacent to Edgefield, which began as the county Poor Farm in 1911.

Six shot panorama.

Here are a few photographs from our recent excursion onto Gatun Lake in Panama. I took a total of about 500 shots of landscapes, monkeys, birds and iguanas but we saw no crocs. We were able to get really close to some monkeys.

The first two are Panamanian white-faced capuchin monkeys.

I don't know why the identity of my lens is not showing up in the EXIF data fields. I was using my RF100-400 lens. CC is always welcome.

We had a great day on the lake!

Hi Dean,

Fascinating (technically and visually) captures of a dramatic - and mildly disturbing - looking facility.

(A poster showing this with the strap line - 'Your next home?' - would reduce any crime rate... ).

Well seen - and well done on escaping (and thank you for sharing... 🙂 ).

Hi Andy,

Seeing wildlife in zoos and parks is great fun - but seeing them in their natural environment is special and lends a 'different angle' to the experience.

Because of the generally skittish nature of wildlife, set up time can be very limited - so you've done very well to see, frame and capture these shots.

CC wise: consider using -1 exposure comp for creatures with white fur to protect the highlights, if light permits I'd also be at a much higher shutter speed with such rapid creatures and when using longer focal lengths (generally between 1/800-1600-ish) - and finally, perhaps crop in a little tighter on the subjects? (All this in the context that these are great images which you should be very proud of - but you did ask! :) ).

I don't think the forum picks up the lens data (mine doesn't show either). Perhaps PM Tim (Admin - and top bloke!) and see if this could be included?

Thank you for sharing... 🙂

Regular viewers may need to brace themselves as we reveal these images were actually taken this month (in fact last weekend)! 😮

(Just don't get used to this timeliness... 😂 ).

We visited the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, Doncaster, England, to catch sight of the 4 (FOUR!) recently born cheetah cubs (we did, but only via a TV monitor).

Shot raw and processed using DxO PL E, Adobe LrC/ PS with Tony Kuyer Panels and Topaz Labs Studio. Compilations feature Karen R7 and Phil R5 II.

Great set. Love the scrap at the end. Reminds me of my life :p

Hi Only RF,

You seem to have front row seats at the local bird aerobatics show - great stuff!

Thank you for sharing... 🙂

It's one of my favourite spots when I come to Portugal. It's about a 40 minute walk from where we stay along rocky/lava cliffs. I named it Cormorant Rock (or Cormo Rock). Lots of Cormorants and pigeons. Pigeons are good practice. I can hardly wait to get back every year and see my how my buddies (birds) are doing.

Crested Pigeon (Ocyphaps lophotes)
Brisbane Hinterland, Queensland, AU

A few years ago — the mid-1950s as I recall — my favourite hobby was making model aircraft.

As often as not, my task was to recreate WW2 fighters. The building instructions gave two camouflage options: European and North African, the latter replacing greens with the sandy browns of the desert. Whichever the case, the underside of fuselage and wings was pale grey.

Coincidence? Or was there an evolutionary advantage awarded to pigeons of the arid interior of Australia who were less obvious to aerial predators?

Thanks for looking.

Phil,

Thank you very much for your kind words and for your CC. I'm fairly new and inexperienced at photography and really appreciate your suggestions very much.

The forum does pick up the lens identity data in some posts but not all for some reason. I'll reach out to Tim.

Hi Andy,

My pleasure. I’m an ‘enthusiastic hobbyist’ so make of any comments/ advice what you will (but I hope that, as intended, it’s helpful).

Interesting point on the exif data - I’ve just noticed a recent post from David (Berry) includes the lens data. (Be interesting to hear what Tim says - it could be an export settings, or software thing? If I get chance I’ll have a play with my set up later).

Hi David,

A wonderful capture of a beautiful creature.

I think you’re definitely onto something with the ‘natural selection’ angle.

Thank you for sharing... 🙂
