I mentioned before my problems with two R7 kits not rendering properly focused images. I have now published my encounters with Canon and how my local dealer solved the problem. In case you may be interested to read, the link is below with many samples and detailed explanations. I am sharing this mainly to alert users that problems are real and no reason to sit back and take it.

Good thing you got resolution even though if Canon wasn't stepping up to the plate.
It was like pulling teeth! I am very glad that my local camera store came to our help.

Hunt's is the best and Alan is a good one. He's my go to now.

Hey, pulling teeth can be a lot more pleasant than dealing with Canon or other big corporations :ROFLMAO:

The R7 I sent to Canon came back yesterday. I hope to get out and see if it's better tonight.

You are right, Hali, at least they give you some novocaine before pulling teeth!

Glad that you got to the bottom of it. Just a shame that Canon was not more helpful. Brilliant write up too! Please feel free to share it in our R7 Shooters Group on Facebook too if you’d like to raise some more awareness of these issues.

Cemal, I've been following the saga but just now read your article which actually paints the issue in a harsher light. So sorry that you had to experience the lack of concern from Canon Support, but so glad that Hunt's was willing and able to rectify. Great article and got to love the GvFC pen!

This is the first frame out of the R7 upon its return from Canon Repair. It seems better at locking onto the eye but I will be testing further over the next few days. I tried four different processing routes. I think I have described everything that was done to each file. They were all saved for the web at full resolution but as 85% JPEG files. The shutter button did not stick this time but it didn't always stick previously. I did complain about a recent loss of sharpness. The repair ticket stated "Your product has been examined and it was found that the product performed according to specifications. Checked and performed Dual Pixel AF adjustment as a precaution. Recommend to use faster shutter speed, double the focal length. The unit was cleaned and checked. Product functions were confirmed." They did not mention any repairs in reference to the sticking shutter button so we will see what happens.

(L0RD3512_DxO.jpg) was opened directly in DxO PhotoLab 6 then, then opened in PSCC, directly unprocessed.
(L0RD3512-Enhanced-NRSmartSharpen250.jpg was opened in ACR, the new noise reduction feature was used before it was Smart Sharpened in PSCC.
(L0RD3512-topaz-enhance-denoiseraw-sharpen.jpg) was opened in Topaz Photo AI, processed, and then opened with PSCC directly unprocessed.
(L0RD3512TopazDeNoiseSevere.jpg) was the original RAW file run through Topaz DeNoise AI and then opened in PSCC directly unprocessed.

These seem to lack some presence and sharpness like some of my earlier captures. I hope it is solved.

Indeed, I am very happy that Hunt's was by my side. Are you a pen fan? I am planning to photograph my modest collection of fountain pens soon.

There is certainly more testing to be done. Perhaps tomorrow. This frame was shot at ISO 12800 under an overcast sky.

Thank you, Tim. I don't use Facebook, but you have my permission to share it with the group if you like. This is for the benefit of all Canon users. The more they make the problems known, the better we all will be.

I can't say that I am a fan of pens. It sounds like a fun subject, however. One of my projects was focus-stacking macro shots of marbles. Not just any marbles but borosilicate glass marbles created by artists.
I do look forward to seeing any and all images of new and interesting subjects.

This reminds me of some Chihuly glass I photographed some years ago.

On a more serious note, Hunts in Providence is amazing, Alan is great and everyone I've ever dealt with there has been exceptional. Looking forward to see what you create with the new combination.

I have one post with photographs from Roger Williams Park and a new post will be coming tomorrow morning with additional ones. Here are a couple from Roger Williams Park.

Thanks Cemal. I've shared it in our R7 Shooters Facebook Group and also our RF Shooter Page. Hopefully that will bring a little more awareness to these issues.

Yes, I am and I have a modest collection as well. Love to see your photos.

Sadly, the R7 is no different than it was when it was sent to Canon. I will be experimenting on different approaches to the problems.

Best of luck. This level of denial of real problems by Canon is genuinely disappointing.

Mike, in a new article I published to review a pair of lights, I posted some pen photos. I even took new photos after I got a replacement camera and left some of the old ones in the post. You can see a few of my pens.

I was eager to see the pens, so I clicked the link scanned, the photos and didn't read a word of the article . Wow, Namiki, MB and several Waterman beauties, in addition to another GvFC pen. The photography is great and now I need to carefully read the article since I've never gotten a grip on tabletop. Hopefully I'll learn something. Thanks for the link to the article.

Pens have been my life-long love even from the days when I was just crawling. They tell me I would instantly make friends if someone offered a pen for me to hold and play. It still continues. I will try to make a project out of the pens and photography intersection. The article is more of a review of the two lights. When I get to photograph the pens for what they are, I may spend a little more time talking about the pens and sharing stories behind them if any. I would be delighted to see your collection.

I need to work on my tabletop technique (of which there is none), so please be patient. FWIW, i have mainly Italian pens - Visconti, Maiora, Santini - and a few from other locations. I'll keep you posted.

On the day the warranty was due to run out on my R7, I received an email from Canon Repair. It noted that I had reported dissatisfaction with the repair work done and offered to take a look at the camera again. I imagine this resulted from the survey I filled out upon finding the first attempt at a fix had not done the job. They sent an overnight label for shipping and I jumped on it. This time, I was much more detailed in my description of the problem. In fact, I repeated the description four different ways to get the point across and sent a copy of that with the camera. It got there Friday. I'm waiting to see what they say this time. I have to say, I am impressed with their responsiveness to my complaints. They will truly impress me if the problem is solved.
I should add that the problem seemed to be getting worse lately but that was just an impression.
