Canon R7 Multiple Exposure with photos already on card

I was trying to take a few multiple exposure shots this morning. I wanted to use photos that were already on my camera as the first photo of a two shot exposure. It said I had no compatible pictures on the camera. Camera is set to 3:2 aspect and all HDR settings are turned off. Picture quality is JPEG large. I am using the RF S 18-150mm lens. What am I missing? I have done the latest update to 1.7.1. Am I going to have to reset camera (Basic settings and Other settings) Yellow menu, Page 6? I am sure there is something I have set wrong but cannot figure it out.

Not sure about the R7, but the R5 manual says this:

I've never tried it but the R5 manual makes it sound like you have to use images recorded at the same time.

I think I may have solved my problem. I did the Reset Camera (Basic Settings) and then popped the battery for 10 minutes. Took three pictures this morning and then set up Multiple Exposure-2 shots. I was able to use any of the three pictures as my starting photo for a multiple exposure. I have no idea if the reset of Basic Settings or the battery pull was what solved the issue but something seems to have worked.

Doesn't sound like it does on the R5, but it's not something I've played with...although now I may have to...

Yes, it seems to work the way I thought it should now. With our weather lately-showers, wet cooler-it has been a good way to waste some time around the house.

Because learning focus bracketing wasn’t enough, now I’m going to start thinking about multi-exposure….
