Hello,
I am just setting up my R6 mkii and I'm uncertain which focusing mode to use. I typically shoot landscapes, not the grand landscapes but landscapes that I call intimate landscapes. They are a small portion of what might be a grand landscape. I also shoot natural abstracts involving trees, rocks, etc.. TheR6 mkii camera seems very complicated but I chose it for it's low-light capability. Hopefully someone can suggest a focusing mode that will give me the best coverage for my type of shooting. Thank you.

I'm not sure what you're asking. Servo vs. One-shot? Spot vs. Expand? For me most thought about different focusing modes relates to dealing with motion, so I am thinking about the various predictive aspects of the AF, tracking, using the AF cases, etc. For landscapes I would want whatever reliably puts the plane of focus where I want it within the available DoF. Probably One-shot and whichever AF Area matches the AF subject.

But you should also try manual AF with the peaking enabled. I even use that with moving subjects when there's nothing to focus on at the spot where I know I will want the focus later.

Hello,

Thank you for getting back to me. I shoot mostly landscapes and natural abstracts but was uncertain as to which focusing mode to use. I decided to use the evaluative mode until I know differently. Your confusion is understandable as I should have said metering mode. As I have been away from photography a long time I get mixed up in the terminology. Please accept my apology for using the incorrect term. Thank you again for responding.
