We hope you enjoy creating memorable images this month!

Have fun - but stay safe and well…

Phil and Karen 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Any R System images can be posted. If you would like to say something about the subject, settings, or processing, that will be very welcome.

Remember, you don't have to only post things you took this month - sometimes people don't get around to processing/ editing images straight away. (Think of it more as an ‘images I’d like to post here this month’ thing). Images taken with non-R System lenses are also very welcome as this adds to the interest.

Images posted on this thread will also be available to view in the dedicated Monthly R System Images Gallery, which can be found Here.

Commenting on people’s posts is encouraged, as it keeps everyone interested and coming back. (Please aim to be considerate, thoughtful and constructive).

We aim to provide feedback - but note we are away for part of each month and busy with ‘life stuff’. The lack of a comment from us is not a sign of disfavour!

Finally, please post in accordance with the RF Shooters Community Guidelines.

Thank you!

Images from our vaguely recent(ish) * visit to Harewood House, Harewood, West Yorkshire, England. (* It's the next one on the list... :) ).

Planned as a ‘sleepy Tuesday’ mid-journey stop-off, you can imagine our delight at seeing 7 (SEVEN!) coaches of tourists arriving to explore the newly opened exhibition celebrating the landscape painter JMW Turner (1775-1851) and novelist Jane Austin (1775-1817). A fun 'people-free shots challenge' awaited us!

(Shot raw and processed using: DxO PL Elite/ ViewPoint, Adobe LrC/ PS with Tony Kuyper Panels and Topaz Labs Photo AI. Compilations are a mix of R7 - Karen and R5 - Phil).

You can find out more about Harewood House by clicking Here.

1. Harewood House was built in the 18th century by Edwin Lascelles, one of the wealthiest men in England. Sadly, this wealth was built on the utterly abhorrent exploitation of enslaved African people and its associated industries.

Acknowledge, Remember, Educate - The Lascelles family and Harewood House Trust have sought to make Harewood a platform for change, through exhibitions and public events that open up conversations around the legacy of the Caribbean and bring communities together.' Harewood House Trust.

‘I’ve always found this remark by American writer James Baldwin inspiring: “Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced." At Harewood, we face our history, in the hope of making a more just and equitable future.' David Lascelles, 8th Earl Of Harewood.

2. Edwin Lascelles employed the finest craftsmen of the age, commissioning John Carr to design the house, Robert Adam to design the interiors, Thomas Chippendale to furnish the house and Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown to design the gardens and grounds. This is the State Bedroom, intended to dazzle and impress - for use by royal guests only.

3. The Main Library, originally ‘the Saloon’, was converted in the 1840s by the British architect, Sir Charles Barry.

4. The Gallery is the largest room in the House and was originally used for hosting grand banquets and balls.

5. The Music Room is the most complete Robert Adam interior remaining in the House.

6. The kitchens. Harewood House has featured in films such as ‘Downton Abbey’ and TV series, including ‘Victoria’ and ‘Emmerdale’ (the fictional Emmerdale village and Woolpack pub are sited on a purpose built set on the estate).

Auroroa from the back deck last night, Oct. 2/2025 about 11PM. We are right in the city so they were not as bright as they would have been if I had got out of town. There may be more tonight if the clouds stay away, so I got my fingers crossed. After doing some research I realize my ISO was way too low, Shutter speed way too long and White balance was wrong. Really hoping now that they show up again tonight.

I had a very rare 2 hours of free time this afternoon (decided to extend my Dr's Appt to get my annual Flu & Covid vaccinations - just do it people!) and wandered over to the historic Sully Plantation in Fairfax VA.

I'm an admitted chronic "Telephoto-'Ho", so decided to break the habit and took only my RF15-35mm for this visit. I'm glad I did.

Beautiful pen and great photo.

Beautiful pen and great photo.
Thank you, MikeZ. You will see a few more pens when my review gets published on my site early on Tuesday morning.

Parker makes nice pens. I have their Duofold in Pearl and Black as well as their Premier Custom Tartan.

The extreme irony here is that although I collect pens, I have absolutely horrific handwriting! I need to enroll in an executive handwriting class, LOL!

Even after moving much of our lives to computers way back when, I would still take a pen and practice writing, and throughout my teaching career, I always carried two pens. One red for grading papers, the other either blue or purple for general writing. I used to enjoy that. My hands are a bit shaky, which makes it difficult to practice that. When it gets published, take a look at the new post on my site if you like.

Hi Jack,

What an incredible sight to have in the skies above your home. Very nicely captured given the light pollution.

Thank you for sharing... 🙂

Hi Craig,

A fascinating set of images, all well seen, caught and presented.

(We're suckers for odd angles, so #5 takes it for us).

Thank you for sharing... 🙂

Forgot to add this young male Ruby-throated hummingbird taken at a area garden park. He is bulking up to anticipation of his migration South from Virginia.

For an upcoming review of a ring light, I photographed several pens from my collection. This one is a Parker Duofold with an italic nib.

Hi Cemal,

A sublime capture and composition of a striking (and mighty!) subject.

Perfectly controlled and presented, with the result being both inspirational (in a number of senses) and memory evoking.

Thank you for sharing... 🙂

Postcard from America. This one comes from Halibut Point, Cape Ann, Massachusetts, United States - as recommended by a gentleman who had kindly taken our photo near the Fisherman’s Memorial at Gloucester the previous day.

(Shot raw and processed using: DxO PL Elite/ ViewPoint and Adobe LrC/ PS with Tony Kuyper Panels. Karen used our Sony RX10 IV on the US trip - so you’re stuck with Phil’s images. Well, officially - some insets may occasionally veer a little off-piste. Don't tell Tim... ).

1. After a historic preceding day (and a pleasant breakfast with the newly-weds - Alex and Aly!) we opted to travel back in time and stand amid granite rocks estimated to be 440 million years old.

2. The granite was quarried here as early as 1840, with operations continuing until the local industry collapsed in 1929. Following this the quarry remains filled with water (which is now up to 60 feet deep in places).

3. In the final years of World War II part of the site was used to house a 60 foot high military tower which was intended to assist in aiming the coastal defences which protected Boston and Plymouth harbours.

4. In 1981 the State purchased the land and created the 56-acre Halibut Point State Park - which now offers a number of recreational trails amid pleasing surroundings. (It was pulverisingly hot at the time of our visit - although the R5 was absolutely fine, Phil's brain suffered several overheating warnings... 😂).

5. An impressive reminder of the site's past. (Somewhat less impressive, we found the cafe within it was shut... 😮 Happily, recuperative sustenances were subsequently procured in the form of delicious ice creams at Richardson's Dairies over in nearby-ish Middleton!).

Another day, no good birds. It is not often that I take a shot like this at 1000mm. Paper wasp and beetle on Goldenrod.

Hi Jim,

A terrific (if alarming) capture of a remarkable insect, with wonderful detail/ subject isolation and gloriously rich colours.

1000mm sounds like the ideal focal range to me... 😅

Thank you for sharing... 🙂

The article about the ring light with fountain pens as the subject was published early this morning. I am sharing a couple of more fountain pen photographs from it. Here is the full article.

This one is a Waterman Lady Agathe.

The next one is a pair of Sheaffer Tuckaway fountain pens. They are a good deal smaller than the usual size.

Bit of a mission to process, but got something in the end...

{edited to add: something in the site processing has made the top image look a. lot grainer than it really is}

Hi Gareth,

Stunning images of a stunning moon - love the wispy clouds in #3. (Must have been something quite special in real life!).

I'm not aware of any site image handling vagaries (I'm just a regular forum member, with permission to post these threads), but Tim's upload guidance is Here.

Thank you for sharing... 🙂
