I am using the 24-105 F4 with an R5 ii with latest camera firmware.
The 2.07 firmware brings the ability to use the focus ring as a control ring. I cannot see how to set this up - I have installed the firmware.
Has anyone done this?

Which camera do you have? They have made some changes to the location in the menus. Quickest way is to press the camera icon on the LCD and it takes you to the button and dial controls. That I usually where all the mapping options are. I have not installed it yet.

Hi Derek,

On my R5 II - Green 'Control Customization' Menu, Tab 2 (Customised controls when shooting), 4th item [Focus/ control ring].

The Default is FOCUS, Alt. CONTROL.

(Not sure why they didn't put this item with the other options in 'Customise dials/ control ring', but there you go).

:)

Hi Derek,

Given your experience I'm now not 100% sure whether this menu item is what you were looking for. (Though on checking, the R5 II manual it does appear this option it is intended for lenses which have a focus/ control ring, but lack a focus/ control switch?).

Apologies if I've sent you up the wrong ally, I thought I’d found the solution for you. If you do find out what is going on please let us know.

Stupidly I checked the menu with the WRONG lens on. With the correct lens it all works. I probably won't need to use it but good to know it's there. What would be nice would be this AND the control ring with a different function!

Great news!

Too bad they don’t add this to other lenses. The 100-500 control ring is very awkward to use. I doubt I’ll use this feature when I install the FW update as I try to keep things as constant as possible between bodies and lenses. Easier to remember things for us old folk.

Also the 24-105 is my walk around urban and landscape lens. I’m not lacking any buttons to map. It would come in handy on bodies that don’t have a QC2 dial this map aperture to the ring. Or something like that.
