I would like your opinion? Canon APSC. Can never be a pro camera.? Would you pay the same price as a R6III if the R7II was released as rumored? A true successor to the 7DII. The R7 is Canons longest running camera not being updated. Canon seems that video is the priority. I am a stills photographer and Love my R5 and R7 combo. The R7 needs to be updated. what photographers don't talk about, low res view finder, useless shutter, one the cheapest shutter buttons ever put on a Canon. These flaws really take the joy out of using this camera body. There are a lot of good tech in this camera also 32mpx chip. Brilliant location of the scroll wheel. Canon color quality Sigma lens choice. So what are your thoughts on this red headed stepchild from Canon? RJ

My R7 was my first mirrorless body. I've since added 2 R5s and an R10 to the quiver. I have no problems with my R7, although it pretty much gets used exclusively as a bird/wildlife body these days, which takes up maybe 20% of my shooting time.

The best feature of the R7 is that you can get one for less than $1500; and significantly less if you're willing to wait for a deal. Canon put the kibosh on the rumors of an immanent release of the R7ii. If the rumored specs turn out to be true, the R7ii might end up being double the price of an R7. If that's true, there's no way I'd buy one. My R7 is already kind of a niche camera and I'm happy enough with it to keep using it forever if necessary.

Those are pretty much my sentiments about the R7. It is already a great camera for birding which is 85% of my photography. I would not ‘upgrade’ my R7 to an R7 Mark II at twice the price. I am more interested in a full frame R8 Mark II.

The R7 has the highest pixel density of any Canon ICL camera and therefore is the best choice when you are reach-limited. But yeah, the electronic shutter isn't very useful, and there are AF problems.

Note, the R7 is only 4 years old, whereas the 7D and 7D II ran for 6 and 6 1/2 years. By that reckoning, expect an R7 II in 2028. 😬
