I would like your opinion? Canon APSC. Can never be a pro camera.? Would you pay the same price as a R6III if the R7II was released as rumored? A true successor to the 7DII. The R7 is Canons longest running camera not being updated. Canon seems that video is the priority. I am a stills photographer and Love my R5 and R7 combo. The R7 needs to be updated. what photographers don't talk about, low res view finder, useless shutter, one the cheapest shutter buttons ever put on a Canon. These flaws really take the joy out of using this camera body. There are a lot of good tech in this camera also 32mpx chip. Brilliant location of the scroll wheel. Canon color quality Sigma lens choice. So what are your thoughts on this red headed stepchild from Canon? RJ

The R7 gets a bad rap from some photographers because it is not perfect 100% of the time. I like mine. I do get some out of focus pictures in challenging lighting. I can live with that. Using Electronic-first curtain with the 8fps drive resolves a lot of problems.
exactly the point. I have yet to use the 24-105 2.8 paired with the R7 In low light city scapes In December. Ill bet the AF will not be a problem.
My R7 was my first mirrorless body. I've since added 2 R5s and an R10 to the quiver. I have no problems with my R7, although it pretty much gets used exclusively as a bird/wildlife body these days, which takes up maybe 20% of my shooting time.

The best feature of the R7 is that you can get one for less than $1500; and significantly less if you're willing to wait for a deal. Canon put the kibosh on the rumors of an immanent release of the R7ii. If the rumored specs turn out to be true, the R7ii might end up being double the price of an R7. If that's true, there's no way I'd buy one. My R7 is already kind of a niche camera and I'm happy enough with it to keep using it forever if necessary.

Those are pretty much my sentiments about the R7. It is already a great camera for birding which is 85% of my photography. I would not ‘upgrade’ my R7 to an R7 Mark II at twice the price. I am more interested in a full frame R8 Mark II.

The R7 has the highest pixel density of any Canon ICL camera and therefore is the best choice when you are reach-limited. But yeah, the electronic shutter isn't very useful, and there are AF problems.

Note, the R7 is only 4 years old, whereas the 7D and 7D II ran for 6 and 6 1/2 years. By that reckoning, expect an R7 II in 2028. 😬

Six years is a lifetime in the camera world. People tend to forget all the latest tech that was in the 7DII. The first Canon with DPAF,Servo that worked.64 all cross AF points. A high-quality shutter that was a joy to use. A view finder straight out of the 5D series A large buffer and compact flash card with sd card all hidden in 5D series body.I regret moving from this camera to the 5DIV A camera with lesser AF capabilities. color science was wonky, noise problems.Picked up the R7 when it was first release and was blown away with the AF. And canon colors .No 7D But in 2026 still a very good camera. Despite its flaws. Why photographer's dont see the value in a packed with the latest tech apsc camera and see value in a camera like the R8 is baffling? I was photographing beavers last evening just before sunset using R7-100-500 I did not expect every photo to be in focus That's unrealistic for any camera.. Still had a great time. RJ

The only thing I didn't like was that hard hitting shutter so I used ES all of the time. I never had too many rolling shutter issues. I really liked the position of the QC dial. It could have used a QC2 dial but I worked around it. Outside of that.
