  1. Yes
Yes, it did take a bit of handlings/juggling, so I have ZERO idea why Canon thought RF 1 was an improvement over the EF design.

I doubt I will be spending $40 ($8 x 5 lenses) for Version 2 that fixes their design error... they should be giving them away for FREE!

I just placed a pre-order for several of these new caps. I think this has to be one of Canon's most successful marketing ploys ever. No Canon product has ever created such a massive media frenzy upon announcing its release. I'm guessing it's because the one thing that all of us Canon users had in common was our universal hatred toward the original, first generation RF rear lens cap.

I've always hated the RF rear cap, but I never knew why until today.

Yeah, I've got a bunch of caps and since I don't want to replace them all, I'm probably not going to replace any of them -- at least until aftermarket caps hit Amazon.

I did mark up my original caps to make them a little easier to use. I added an index that lines up with the gap in the contacts on the lens. Much easier to find than the red dot on the side of the lens. That second index at the bottom lines up with the red dot.

I'll likely get Canon or knock offs as they are a bit of a pain. You can pre-order at Canon USA but not even up at Canon Canada.

They SHOULD be free. What a foolish move they made with these. And $64 for me which I will not pay them.

I was just thinking about this. I've registered all my RF lenses with Canon. I'm not sure what benefit this gives me other than firmware notifications, but Canon does know which lenses I've bought with the old cap. It wouldn't be hard to track down and notify registered RF lens owners, then send them an offer for free or postage-only new caps for those lenses.
