I bought my R5 4 years ago and still haven’t got an RF lens yet , just haven’t felt I needed to

My most used lenses at the moment are EF 300 2.8 mk2 and Sigma 150 macro non OS had both of these a long time
The Sigma is an amazing lens so sharp and gives an excellent out of focus background as is the 300 2.8
Even if I had the budget, for what I do at least, I can’t see any reason to upgrade lenses to RF and as far as I understand there isn’t an RF equivalent anyway for these lenses, could be wrong haven’t looked into it to be honest
I read that the Sigma 150 non OS macro is not compatible with the in camera focus stacking (or bracketing) on Canon R cameras but it works absolutely fine on my R5 focus is completely accurate

I have noticed some reviews of RF lenses using a lot of correction like the RF24-240. But is it the same for a lens like the 100-500 L?
Corrections are optional. You can select the options in the menu of the camera. With the R5, it is in the Shoot 3 menu. In the R7, it is Shoot 5. I have everything turned off except for chromatic aberration correction.

Not so sure its entirely turned off. My settings are the same as yours.

It appears the R cameras do more correction with EF lenses too.

I have the EF 16-35 F2.8 ii and on my 6D wide open its terrible. Sharp in the center but even half way to the corners its soft. But with my R6 mkiii is nicer and sharp except in the very corners and not as soft as on the 6D half way to the corners.

On my R7 its a sharp lens even in the corners due to its 1.6x crop.

I was ready to get rid of it but it looks good on my R7 and not bad on the R6 mkiii. Wide open its a little soft in the corners on the R6 mkiii but go up to F4 and its fine .

I need F8 on the 6D for the images to be usable...

So the R series cameras are clearly doing more behind the scenes even with correction turned off.

And this got me thinking. Maybe its the multi point focusing finding a happy medium where most of the image is Sharp.

Will retest with center point auto focus and see if it will more closely match my 6D results.
